Has anybody ever used the 'Policy Saving' game-setting?

Never use it, never will. I know settings are there for a reason but something about completing a game on default settings just feels 'right' for me. (This is also why I don't use mods)
:this: :agree:

Thx to all the replies. They made much sense. Actually I am considering playing a Cultural Victory. I am thinking about getting Tradition opener, and delay all policies until Piety is available (G&K).

I wouldn't recommend this. The middle policies, especially the increased food one on the bottom, and the finisher are crazy useful for culture victories. What you want to do is do all of tradition first, THEN go into Piety. Once you've completed all the policies other than the 10% gold from temples one you can start saving until you get to Freedom.

I'd also take that 10% gold from temples to complete Piety before saving for Freedom unless you still have the Oracle under construction.

You can make 2 excellent strategies with the policy saving:

1. You save up from beginning on and use all of the culture to open Patronage up to Scholaristicism to get a huge science boost right from medieval era. Addiionally You need to save a lot of gold up to that point to make it work. If done properly can be a game winning strategy.

2. You adopt a few crucial policies early (for example from Liberty) than save up until reinassaince and open Rationalism with full left side and start spaming RA's.

I personally don't think that policy saving is suited best for Cultural games as You'll need either Tradition or Liberty branch (sometimes both) + quick Piety branch to go for and it doesn't make sense to skip them and wait for Industrial to complete Freedom and go for other ones later.

Nah, the Piety finisher isn't very useful unless you're planting your Prophets and those Holy Sites are taking up valuable Landmark space.

While this can certainly lead to interesting and potentially gamewinning strategies, I prefer to use them at once, feels more like "history" is going on this way :king:

It is essential for legalism. If you wait untill you have a monument in 4 cities you will gain 4 temples. Only usefull if a monument is +- 3 turns away from completition and a additional policiy would take 30 turns.

yeah... I only use it for being off by a turn or two so that I do not waste something..

I like to use complicated and impractical strategies that can be broken by policies spent a turn too early.

I never use it. I find it a lot better using the policy right away without having to save it. It forces you to make proper choices in choosing policies. Plus, I find saving culture kind of feels like cheating.
