"In Ancient Egypt, women had a higher status than they did elsewhere in the ancient world, including the court-protected right to own or inherit property. Yet having a female ruler in her own right was rare: only Khent-Kaues, Sobeknefru and possibly Nitocris preceded her as ruling in their own name. Pharaoh was an exclusively male title; at this point in Egyptian history there was no word for a Queen regnant, only one for Queen consort, and as such, the women who ruled before Hatshepsut used the Queen consort's title of "God's Wife of Amun". Hatshepsut is unique in that she was the first woman to take the title of King regnant or King in the absence of a word or title for Queen regnant.

Hatshepsut slowly assumed all of the regalia and symbols of the office of King: the Khat head cloth, topped with an uraeus, the false beard and shendyt kilt. Many existing statues show her in both a feminine and masculine form. However, after this period of transition ended, all depictions of her showed her in a masculine form, with all of the pharaonic regalia and with her breasts omitted. Her reasons for doing this are a topic of great debate in Egyptology. The traditional explanation is that her motivation for wearing men's clothing was sexual. However, most modern scholars believe in a more recent theory: that by assuming the exclusively male symbols of pharaonic power, Hatshepsut was asserting her claim to be King or Queen regnant and not "King's Great Wife" or Queen consort. Even after assuming the male persona, Hatshepsut still described herself as a beautiful woman, often the most beautiful woman, and although she assumed almost all of her father's titles, she declined to take the title The Strong Bull."

Pulled from wiki (not worth typing out myself :p :mischief: ).

Lol, so in this thread.. we're all either going silly over AI girls or long-since dead girls.

Gentlemen... please get some... and get some REAL (pardon the pun:crazyeye: ) soon. You're all freaking me out.

Eh, happiness is being married to a real life hottie and not being attracted to female pixels, statues, or other unreal representations of women!

Darn am I the only loser who modded out Peter, so I would always have Catherine to flirt with? :whipped:

*cough* Civ III Catherine *cough*

:p
Every time I see Civ 4 Catherine saying - "is that a treaty in your pocket or are you just happy to see me" and similar lines, I chuckled because I was just wondering what if the Civ 3 Catherine said that to me...
It's even more awkward if you're playing as a female leader - Hatshepsut, Isabella are the two that I've manage to see lines like these.

EDIT:
Darn am I the only loser who modded out Peter, so I would always have Catherine to flirt with?
I do find it much more humourous to have Civ4 Catherine slapping my leaderhead on the face when she rejects an offer.

Seeing as I'm a full blooded Egyptian male, the only secret I can tell you is...

The men are better looking.

O.o Agian, all I have to say.

Where is the Hatshepsut fan club? She is HOT. (As near as I can tell, are Egyptian girls are--including the long-dead artificial digital ones!) In my present game, I'm working on upping our relationship from "Friendly" to "Romatically Involved." I think Plastics, a few ICBMs, and the rest of my gold should do it...

I think seducing Hatshepsut should be a victory condition...

+10 humor right there. Thanks for the laugh!

Re: Topless Egyptians

Egypt was and is a hot place. Eqyptians were well known for not really having much of a nudity taboo. The greeks were scandalised and warned visitors not to stare at the women or one might get attacked (by the outraged women.)

So all in all, Hatshepsut was propably quite unashamed.

Must...not..look...

Quick, hurry up and go outside before it's too late. The birds, trees, and the sun are calling you!
