I've played this game: Civ= Carthage, Continents with 70% water, Dry world, 5 billion with 15 civ opponents at Demigod level! I got to the industrial age and things started to go pear shaped. I stated a war on another continent as I thought this world be easier for me. I singed a military alliance with Babylon (second biggest civ), Persia, Aztec, Mayan and America against the biggest civ Mongolia  .It cost me an arm and leg but it was worth it....until the "Arabs" moved in on me, they got England, France, Germany and Portugal to declare war on me....these civs are my neighbors plus England and Portugal have the biggest military on my continents...it was not long before the Ottomans, Chinese and Japan declared war. :(

Likely I hand a mutual protection Pac with Spain and Rome, they held off the greater half of the military powers moving in my direction, because you see England, France, Germany and the Arabs have to move through Rome and Spain to get to me…I hoped and prayed they would have been slowed up before they got to me. :goodjob:

While this was going on l hand to deal with the occasional attack form battle ship bombardment from Mongolian vessels, this war went on for 50 turns and my land was getting smaller by the turn, due to the stubbiness of the AI civs to sign a peace treaty with me and the massive 1000 units on my door step… I Struggled long and hard, but after 30 turns I was wiped out…they burnt Carthage to the ground…I could hear the Evil alliance on my continents slurring the phrase “oh was that your last city….maybe we should give it back”

Evil!

So have you lost in civ 3 conquest or other civ games?

only the first two games i ever played after that wins all the way

Crippling Story Babylon...but if u fight England and her allies, your gonna get hurt :P lol
I've lost plenty....in warlord mode  Dunno why, but every other civ seems to be about 5 civs ahead of me, whereas in cheiftain, im about 30 ahead of all others

I've lost a couple. I think that I might lose the game I am playing right now. Monarch and I got a small continent

I never lost. I always gave up before. ;)

First tries at Demigod, stopped early... the same applied to Monarch -> Emperor.

The difference is just that I did not struggle to the very end.

Don't worry HM, it was DemiGod.

But I was so close to getting the Mobilization transportation tech. :( and what made things even worse was the fact that I did not see my self getting wiped out...I was just hoping and praying that I could servive these turns and get into the modern age...oh well I will try with fewer civs next time. ;)

I will conqure Demigod before the weekend kicks in! :salute:

Woah, someone else who uses the expression "Pear-Shaped" Awesome.

Of course I've lost on occasion, pushing myself with too challenging difficulty levels on too difficult map settings and getting those really horrible starting positions.

Anyone who has pushed themselves will have lost and that counts quitting!

Everybody says it so nonchalantly. I could easily say, "Oh, I only lost my first CIV game ever," but I've probably lost at least 20 - 25 games before I finally got my first Emperor win a few months ago, and even more in the transition from Warlord to Regent. My losing went on until I fixed my corrupt strategy.

I've lost plenty. If I pick everything during game setup, I will usually win (I don't really consider "histographic victory" to be a win). The more things I randomize, the harder it is. So I've been doing some random things to learn different ways to play. The only games I've ever given up on were ones with really nasty start positions (usually given up after scouting out one ring around the start) and those where I have neither iron nor coal (and no near opponent has them) although it pains me to wait until the discovery of steam before quitting.

How many people journal their play and keep screenshots as they go so they can figure out what worked and what didn't after the game is over? I don't and I wonder if it is worth the effort.

I haven't lost much, since I normally quit :mischief: , but one time, I lost by space race right when I was about to invade the second strongest power in the world....If I had beaten him, no one else would have adequitee resources for space race, and I could have easily killed their technologically backwards societies...... :(
Smilies! :coffee: :shakehead :dubious: [pissed] :gripe: :wallbash:

I've never lost to an AI :spank: them bad but I have lost some multi player games. :cringe: The AI games were all levels up to Emp. and all size worlds. 1 diety win as the Aztecs on a tiny world. I am not sure :undecide: if I'll win COTM03 yet I just got to the MA an hour ago. (I'm in last place)

I think you kind of have to lose every now and then to get better....you learn from your mistakes, as they always say...

However, I don't lose that much unless I play Monarch..on Regent my win-loss ratio is about 3:1 but in Monarch it's about 1:3

And generally I quit before I can win anyways, since I hate the industrial and modern ages. I actually made a mod for myself with no oil, rubber, etc etc and no modern techs so I could stay in the AA/MA. Conquest all the way baby!

I lost my first two or three games on Cheiftain histographically. If I remember right the very first game I played I was on an island and didnt contact anyone until about 1500 A.D. By then I was behind in points and ended up losing histographically.

Once I moved up to Warlord I lost quite a few times before I got my first win. Then, I found this place and never lost another game at Warlord, Regent or Monarch. But, now that I have moved up to Emperor I have lost several. I've havent actually finished out very many, but the ones I have played, I've won about 60%. Right now I'm trying to win a game with all the civs before I move to Demigod. I've only don the Iroquois, Mayas, Celts, Japanese, and Chinese. Still got a long way to go. :)

I've lost once, but tend to finish a game early if it is obvious that I will founder. I'm a bit of a chicken.

Does it really matter? Wins and Defeats are part of the game! Even from defeats I've learned more than from wins.
