So, today I thought I'd do something special for myself. I went through the process of registering my HOI3 copy for multiplayer, thinking I might even catch one of the CFC group online or at the very least, another idiot like myself to give me a fair and no doubt, messy game.

What did I find at the end of this rainbow?

Nothing. Nobody. Nada. Nil.

There wasn't one single person on this planet sitting in the HOI3 metasever. . . Aside from me. Not one!

So I ask, is it a dislike for the game? A dislike for the multiplayer itself? Or something else? And if there is anyone who wouldn't mind playing a bout with me so I can see what it's like to get ground into the dust of the second world war first hand, that'd be even more fun than the answers.

The multiplayer aspect of these games takes planning and is a long-term commitment. The game doesn't last half an our or an hour or even a few hours, considering the game when played normally can last weeks!

I'm not sure why they waste time developing multiplayer for it. It hasn't crossed my mind to play it multiplayer. Maybe now that I think of it, it could be fun to sort of play for the same country and take care of different departments, or different theaters of war.

The biggest advantage I can see if, since you can have two platers play the same nation, would be teaching someone else the game.

Which I would have absolutely no patience for, and I don't know of anyone within 1000 kms who plays these games (except Equuleus).

Multiplayer in these games is amazingly awesome, if you can find someone willing to stick with you.

Well, I'm using my good old Mao Zedong, Chinese Communist persuasion techniques to force a friend to buy HOI3 for multiplayer. Anyone who doesnt mind adding me on msn feel free to join us - I'm assuming you can all control your own countries, though I've not actually tried.

Moose? Care to clear that up for me? Are all players forced onto one team or is it playable as seperate nations?

EDIT: S'ok, checked the manual, looks like its possible to play a combination of cooperatively controlling one nation as a team and controlling seperate teams.

In theory the game can support 32 human players but the manual advises to try and stay below a dozen if the game isn't being played on a LAN. Still, 12 players with a country each and then the AI filling in the gaps sounds like more than enough to me. (That is assuming everyone picks a country each of course.)

Well, I for one cant wait for my friend to get it. I think it'll be an awesome game with more than one human player involved.

I'm pretty sure he'll like it, he's all about strategy and politics and he can automate anything he doesnt want to do.
