I would like to thank and affirm all who are involveed in this glorious enterprise (Civilization.) I purchased Civilization III about a year ago soon after I obtained Civilization IV. I am 47 years old, in my youth I was addicted to stratigic war games and traveled the country to engage in the real sport of kings (WAR.) So, as one could easily imagine when I saw these games for the first time I was in heaven.
Then came "Hell", for I am not in any way shape or form a computer guru. I am however able to read, follow directions, and push a button so I am always able to figure out how to eventually get accomplished what I need to get done via a P.C. But my particular piece of "Hell" is the lag time between turns when my games get involved and large (just when they are getting very good.) I have been able to deduce that the problem is due to the size of my cpu. I have a Amd 1800 + with a Raedon x1300 series video card with 512 ram my system model is ms-6380.
My question to you fine, learnered, gentleman is there a cpu I can purchase to keep my beloved computer that has survived all the upgrades (3 power supplies, one mother board, 3 graphic cards, 1 sound card, 3 hard drives, 2 cd roms, and 1 Dvd addition) that I have put it through or have I maxed out what I can do as far as upgrades?

Socket A processors are no longer manufactured and most vendors (Newegg, for example) don't sell them anymore

It's likely you can find one used (purchased from a reputable shop) and may improve your games' lag. You'd want to look to your motherboard manufacturer's site for notes on compatible cpus.
As you suggest though, you may have "maxed out" your beloved computer. Shopping for a new rig may be in your future.
good gaming *bows*
