Helicopters fly over sea and land

I don't know, but Helicopters certainly need modding. Has anyone EVER used one? You can't even put wheeled units in them and by the time you get helicopters, infantry is pretty much obsolete anyway.

I believe you can put paratroops in helicopters. I've never done it.

Theoretically you could flag a number of units as "foot units" in the editor, allowing helicopters to carry them. Artillery for example, or even tanks.

They can't

They can't drop a unit acroos a sea or ocean (from a continent to another) IIRC

I've NEVER even gotten the tech advanced flight. I never needed it and don't suspect I ever will. Sooner or later I may get the tech in a peace negotiation and then I might build a helicopter if I got a city 100% improved with no immediate need for more important units.

Why? They can do it.
But if they can, that means that other continent is really close so for transport purposes I'll chose transport ships any day (or airports if possible).
Sometimes I use helicpoters just for fun, like marceagleye never bother with researching advanced flight though.

Actually, they can.

I use a couple helicopters in most games. I have workers flagged as foot units and the chopper is useful (at least on some of the Earth maps) for dropping workers to work in the small islands in places like the Carribean where it would be a pain in the butt to use transports (easier to rebase 1 or 2 choppers than move the transports all over the place, or have a transport in every island group)

One use for helicopers, is in conquering jungle or forest country -- YOur tanks, MA, MI, or whatever slog through, and take cities as they come to them. I have a couple of helos parked neaby and either regular infantry, marines, paratroopes loaded on the helo. When the next city falls, rather than wait for roads, helo drop garrison troops, and move the assault team on.

Helos can drop a unit anywhere within their range. What is needed is to increase their carrying capacity by one, extending their range by about 2 or so, and having a modern era unit that is worth hauling (I'd recommend a Special Forces unit).

Since helicopters and paratroopers have the same deployment range, what would be the purpose of building the paratrooper AND the helicopter?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I was able to make my Apaches move like Civ 2 air units by unselecting "immobile" in the unit abilities box. Be warned: the helicopters are then totally vunerable to an attack by other units and will not even defend itself as it is destroyed. Using hit-and-return attacks with infantry to guard them or having them hit from the ocean is an effective strategy.

Paratroopers can not airdrop from city without airport. Helicopters can.
