Hiya folks

Recent Mac convert that I am (pre-Intel), I was determined to hold out until Civ IV was ready but patience was never one of my virtues and yesterday I finally gave in and put in an order for CivIII Complete.

So of course the anticipation is reaching fever pitch. But lest I allow my daydreaming to get *too* carried away and set myself up for blistering dismay and disappointment, I thought I'd better check up on something:

Are the Civ III modpacks for PC compatible with CivIII Complete for Mac?

(oh, and are there any extras in CivIII Complete besides the offical expansions? I can't seem to find any info on this)

Thanks in advance!
Matt

Hello, and welcome :wavey:

The answers are yes and yes.

1. If you can get the mod files onto the Mac, and sometimes with a little sleight of hand, PC mods run fine with Civ3 Complete.

2. Civ3 Complete comes with a substantial array of "Civ-Content" out of the box. Lots of fan-created scenarios and maps and graphics mods are installed from the DVD.

To qualify the "if" in the first answer:

People around these parts have been successful to varying degrees in getting other mods to work. File paths defined in the mods are not always compatible with the folder structure of the Mac version, but Aspyr are planning to release a patch soon that will address this issues. Meanwhile, there are workrounds if you're desperate. Some mods come as Windows installers that need to be run on a PC to extract the files, but many are also available as zip file sets.

You'll enjoy it, I'm sure :)

Thanks for the speedy response, Alan! I'm extraordinarily pleased to hear that... especially since I've just discovered the latest incarnation of the 'Double Your Pleasure' mod (wow!).

I'm like a kid on Christmas eve... I can't wait till it arrives :-)

Double your Pleasure comes with the game. Rise and Rule is the C3C sequel, but isn't included on the DVD.

Although RAR cmes as a WIndows Installer, it unzips on the Mac using Stuffit Expander, a free download at www.allume.com.

I succeeded in getting it to run in the current release of Complete by dropping the expanded files and folders into Civ III Complete/Conquests Game Data/Scenarios, and copying the Art, Text and Sounds folders that are in the Civ III Complete/Civilization 3 Game Data/ folder into the top level of the Civ III Complete/ folder. I haven't played it beyond the first turn or two, so there may be other things you need to do as well. I think Aspyr's patch will remove the need for copying Game Data folders around, though.
