Hello everyone. First off, please excuse me for making a thread there, being so new. There's a good chance that the answers to my following questions can be found elsewhere, and for that I'm sorry. For those willing to help, there goes:
* In Beyond The Sword, does the huts still have a chance of giving a worker or settler?

* Besides great wall and imperialist trait, is there another source to increase the normal rate of great general appearing?

* Is there an easy way to secure that AI won't declare war on me?

* The text says that siege units can't kill, but I've seen catapults killing my swordmen often...?

* Usually, my city growth reaches the happy cap fast, what would be an easy solution to increase it? building temples and others usually get me behind, and turns me into a target.

* Could someone link to recomended mods? I'm interested in playing new traits and civilizations, but I'd rather skip something badly balanced (not that the game is perfectly balanced either)

* Who came first, Kirby or Majin Boo? (err, not very much civilizations 4 related, still would like to know)

Thanks, and sorry for the terribly typos!

1/ only at level below noble

2/ you can get a free great general reaching fascism first, I think that's all

3/ Look at the f9 graph, have a big army, defensive pacts, and friendly neighbours

4/ Not any more in BTS

5/ either stop growth, or if you still want to grow, run hereditary rule and build units; or acquire happiness resources

6/ Everyone will recommend you different mods  depends what kind of stuff you're searching for, really

7/ eeh, Obi-Wan Kenobi

Slavery is a great way to get rid of your unhappy folks. When you get past your cap "Whip" them and speed up your production AND get rid of the worthless citizens. Just make sure you "Slave" more then one citizen since it will increase your unhappiness one so in order to get lower you have to get rid of two or more.

Thanks for the input. Those questions relate to my current inability to compete with the AI in city size. They get 5 or more pop above me in their big cities, so I feel like I'm missing something obvious. I'm pretty bad at 'whipping' so I don't even turn to slavery...
About the mods, I'm interested in seeing new traits, unique buildings and units, to turn around the balance and make diferent, strong strategies. I expect that there are some mods that people tried and could testify on it's fair balance...
Also, I have saw more than once, catapults killing my units. I'm guessing that it is a 'players only' handicap...
Another feature. I remember back before bts, that using a great artist did ended revolt in conquered city with 'great work'. But in bts, the city's revolt continued as normal. Btw, I mean I tested it...

The Great Wall increases the number of Great General points you get from combat inside your borders - that's the only non-trait way I know of getting Great Generals faster.

Edit - duh, you already know this. I should pay more attention.

A siege unit can still kill a unit if it is defending. It is only when attacking that it is limited to a maximum amount of damage before being forced withdrawing. I think that's what you were looking for...

To grow cities beyond size 4 or 5, you need happiness sources (and health sources). Check articles from Cabert, "ways into happiness" and "ways into healthiness", both in the strategy article forum.

To give you a very good Mod to install check the following

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=249129

It is Wolfshanze's Mod is does not really change things in the core game but adds in lots of units for the period of 1850-1930,

So basically all first generation ocean going ironclads, airplanes, tanks etc. also has more Civ's and leaders to be honest I have it set up as my standard game now just could not go back.

One of the really cool things I like (example) is the fact each Civ's units look like the native Country, German tanks look like Panzers, Russian look like T-55, T-62 etc.

I really would check it out I do not think you will be disappointed

1. Go to war. :P

2. Pay attention to your resources. For example, a market gives +1 happy for silk, ivory, fur and something else... If you have all four of those then that's +4 happy when you build one. There's also the culture slider which will boost happiness in cities with theatres and/or colloseums. Then there's the civics that boost happiness from barracks (nationhood) or military units (hereditary rule). And finally, if you have a reliable ally you could trade them for any happiness resources you don't have for a +1 in all cities.

3. Good question, though not really appropriate. Kirby's first appearance was in 1992. Buu, in his many forms, first appeared in the Dragonball manga which ran in Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1995. He first appeared in chapter 460 out of 519 (Volume 38). I can't find an exact date but averaging the chapters out over 11 years gives a rough estimate of late 1993 suggesting Kirby was earlier, but only just. :P

Absolutely. Wolfshanze's mod is fantastic.
Varietas Delectat with the Modern Era Expansion pack is really good, as well. It has some of the things Wolf's mod has but adds a bit more in the later game in terms of units and a few techs. There are some nice aircraft options to use for troop support in the modern era (besides Gunships). Check it out.

1)Only on the easy difficulty levels. At Noble (the neutral level) or above the best you can get is a free tech.

2)Free general at Facism is about it. Otherwise all you can do is go to war more often, which would be a rather back to front approach.

3)Most AIs will not attack you when they are Friendly. Getting them to that can be done by sharing a religion, having them as an ally in a war, or by agreeing to their demands/requests.

4)A quick check - siege engines cannot kill when attacking but it is still possible for them to win when defending. If you mean you're losing swords attacking siege engines, that's normal. Other possibility is you're not playing BtS, in which case you're on an earlier version of the game where siege engines could kill.

5)The hereditary rule civic and cheap military units are a good fix in the early stages. Trading for happiness resources is a better option later on. Temples will help, but are expensive in hammers.

I'm shocked you would all mislead the OP like that. The OP seems to be playing Warlords and not BTS yet you are all mentionin BTS circumstances. I say this because the Great Wal gives Great Spy points not GG points.

did you notice he's speaking of great generals, not great engineers? ;)

Also, he mention BTS in his first question, and a BTS fact in his 4th.

Troll elsewhere.

1)This the the BTS forum.
2)He says "BTS"
3)Great Wall does help with getting Great Generals - double GG points for all fights within your own border.

If you are playing right, most wars will be invasive

If you are playing right, most wars will be invasive, which limits GW's power. And you aren't helping th, idiot.

Stop being jerks, expecially you zypher. Just because someone makes a mistake doesn't mean they are trolling.

Also while most of your wars will be invasive, it's a very useful strategy (expecially if your opponent is aggressive or has been in an earlier war) to declare war and let them bring their main unit stack within your own borders, this way you can easily attack it first with seige and whittle it down, killing dozens of units with no war weariness. (and in fact, giving weariness to the AI) Having the great wall makes this strategy even sweeter.
