i've heard of the mercurians getting their angels from the vault and agares's hell but i
don't know much about the afterlife in erebus.
so can anyone tell me about it?

The dead followers of the Overlords (those who don't end up in Hell) go to Danalin's vault. We know it's full of water, and that Falamar is flat . .. .. .. .ing terrified of it, but beyond that, nothing. Of course, we don't know whether it's truly terrifying in the way an eternity of Hell is, or if it's just the sort of eternity Falamar would like to avoid, but others could reasonably seek. We know Danalin's vault has uncorrupted parts ruled over by his archangel, perhaps good Overlords followers end up there.
AFAIK, the Mercurians don't draw from any specific vault; they may even seek to convince souls to join them before they even reach their destined vault (perhaps hinting falsely at a terrible fate awaiting them, and a chance of redemption should they take up arms with the Mercurians). I can see Junil being willing to spare some of his fallen worshipers from within his vault, though most of the other gods would balk for various reasons at such an offer.

Do we know where the various angels that serve the Mercurians come from?

Like I think the Seraph angels obviously are former angels of fire. What of the Ophanim or the Heralds?

In game, Mercurians are spawned from units that follow the Order, Empy, or RoK.

Lorewise, Basium was an angel of the God of Death, which means that he knows of all the passages that lead into his domain. Because this is the place where pretty much EVERYBODY goes unless you're a devout follower of a specific god, Basium can quickly sneak people out of Arawn's domain and back into Erebus as Angels.

I got that, but what about the other specific Angel units, like the Seraphim, the Ophanim, the Valkyries, the Heralds... do we know if they come from a specific vault?

Um, the evil gods snag a lot of the undecided souls, even if they weren't worshipers of those gods/ess. This is how the God of Greed gets all his demons, almost noone worships him and he discourages those that do.

Well, technically, Basium is the Archangel of Life. He just dosen't like his new boss much. (Heh, he downright despises him)

He didn't much like is old boss either

Oh no, he liked Arwan. Arwan created him, and didn't care much what he did.
He hate Succullus becxause he feels he would be better as god of Life, not Succullus.

I don't think Basium hates Arawn like he does Sucellus, but he still doesn't like him. He was the most activist angel under the least activist god. He had been begging Arawn for control of the Precept of Life for ages and while he could accept the god keeping it for himself he views giving it up to Sucellus instead to be a personal insult.
