HELP! BtS not recognizing Patch 3.13 !!1!

Kindly Fellow Civers,

I searched the forum for an answer to this first and I came across a couple posts with the same problem, but no solution.

If anyone can help me out with this one, I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Here's mah story......

I logged on to the BtS Lan game to whomp on some buddies of mine and it said I had to upgrayedd to 3.13. OK. So it downloaded.

It didn't seem to be auto installing and I was impatient to start the whompin, so I fired up BtS. It was still 3.00. I exited and the 3.13 installer started up and installed itself.

SO, I fired up BtS again- still 3.00. Under ADVANCED - the top line is 3.00, not 3.13.

Sooo, I shut it down, restart the comp for fun, manually download the Patch and try to install it again. Windows gives me a msg saying "3.13 is already installed. Do you wish to install it again."

Long story short, I've reinstalled the patch seven times and while Windows is firmly convinced that my version is 3.13, BtS itself still shows as 3.00, and any attempt to do online multiplayage tells me I need the 3.13 patch (and when I say, "OK! Download it again!" I'm back in the infinate loop of Windows saying I don't need to because I already have 3.13 but BtS not recognizing it.)

I attempted to uninstall BtS through the Control Panel / AddRemove but I get a Windows error saying that setup.exe crashes. There seems to be no way to Uninstall the game or repair an installation.

Does ANYONE *KNOW* how to fix this?

How do I convince BtS that 3.13 is already installed?!?

Worst case, is there a way to safely and completely remove BtS to reinstall from scratch without fnarking up vanilla Civ, getting stuck in an infinate loop, or anything involving formatting?

and are you sure its 3.00 and not
3.0.0.1
which would be correct if BtS 3.13 is installed?
could you post the complete information of about this build?

there are ways to manually uninstall - though it is a pain, are you familiar with editing the windows registry?

No, it's 3.00.

In the same room on a different computer, the patch worked fine and it clearly shows 3.13 on the top line under Advanced.....


Also, when I log on to multiplayer, it Definately won't let me proceed without trying to install 3.13 (which the Installer already says it is)

I've been in the registry a couple times....it's generally a place I stay away from unless i know exactly what im looking for.....
However, if that's the only way to resolve this, I'll put on a friggin helmet and start removing entries....

don't go doing stuff blindly - I will post a complete list of things to do - but since I need to compile it it will take a while and I will not be able to post it until tonight. If you desperately want to go ahead please search for uninstall and reinstall instructions posted by me and by GVBN in the Tech support section - if you combine those you should be able to completely remove the game.

Hell, in the meantime, if anyone knows how to make BtS understand that IT ALREADY IS 3.13 without a reinstall, you too could get the tingly good feeling that comes from helping an exasperated chieftan.

I don't understand why BtS continues to believe it's 3.00 when even fnerking Windows recognizes the patch. WINDOWS gets it!

It would be swell if the answer involved editing a line of code. Or magic. Or some sort of psych doctor but for software.


ALSO, because I hadn't said already, I'm running Windows XP. Never had a problem with CIV 4 until this. *sigh*

How to manually uninstall Civ4 and expansion packs

Step 1
Delete Civ4 files from the hard drive. Go to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games and delete the folder Sid Meier's Civilization 4

Step 2
Delete Civ4 registry entries

First you need to access the registry
- click Start on the taskbar
- select Run...
- type regedit and click OK

Now delete Civ4 software keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Warlords (Warlords expansion pack)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Beyond the Sword (Beyond the Sword expansion pack)

Finally delete Civ4 uninstall keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}

I found this in an older thread, but I know for sure that patch 3.13 installed files inside a folder inside the WINDOWS dir as well as other folders that the installer didn't fully display.... I'm concerned that these other files may fnark up the reinstalling process??

thats - the stuff from GVBN I was talking about, now combine this with the below - and you should be all set (basically do step 1 of what GVBN wrote, skip the stuff with the control panel I wrote, proceed with my instructions until you hit the install steps, then do step 2 of GVBN's instructions, then use my install instructions). The below is an old post of mine, so it includes warlords, which I don't know if you have it - if not just ignore those parts. And I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the core game (aka Vanilla) as shown below:


install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Vanilla
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS) (note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Vanilla, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.13 (download it fresh from here).
