I have just bought the Civ 4 game in Denmark where it comes on one dvd-rom (I think it is the UK version) and now I'm having trouble. Initially I was able to install the game and play a few test games ( enough to know that I wan't more!) but then trouble began. I had a crash to desktop while I was away from the computer and when I tried to start up the game again my computer refuses to read the Dvd-rom. I tried restarting and everything, but nothing helped - the drive just hums and blinks and after maybe 10 minutes comes up with the message that the the the disc is empty:confused: !

I then tried to use the option in the control panel to reestablish/reconfigure (I'm not sure of the translation - gendan in danish) the computer to the day before when the game worked and this actually works! I am able to read the disc again and can play the game. Unfortunately one ofmy kids acidentally ejects the disc while I'm playing a short time later and the same trouble begins again. Only this time it doesn't work to go back to the earlier configuration although I try to go back to several different dates. I've tried to uninstall teh game and that doesn't work either - I just can't read the disc.

I've tried to borrow my friends' version of the game but the computer won't read that either. There seems to be nothing wrong with the dvd -rom because my wife's laptop can read it. My drive has no problem reading other games, CDs or DVDs - I simply don't understand what is wrong.

Please help - I really, really, really want to play my game

It probably is a problem with the copy-protection of the game. There are plenty of similar posts to yours in this forum. Look at these threads for suggested work-arounds.

PS: In my case, playing from an account with administrator rights helped (xp).
