Hi everybody!

I'm sorry I can't find the proper thread where this is addressed. There's so much useful information on here that it's kind of overwhelming.

I'm a big time newbie to editing Civ4 and all I wanted to do was change the Marathon speed so that rather than 3x the length it's 2x the length.

I managed to find the .xml file and edit it so that, for example, most of the values of 300 were instead 200. My problem is overwriting the original .xml file as I get an error where access is denied.

I used Notepad to edit the values and tried to save over the original to no avail. If you guys could please advise me, I would be extremely grateful.

The only time that happens is when that file is being used by another program, i've edited it quite easily.
So make sure no other program is loading that file, like another notepad open on your desktop.

Never, ever overwrite the original files. Copy what you want to change to your Custom Assets folder and make the changes there. The game will look in that folder first when the game loads and ignore the original file. Doing that way means you never have to worry about screwing anything up. If something goes wrong you can simply delete the file and the game will revert to the default.
