I have gained control over most of the world (256xy map, 31 nations, max city sizes of +100) by being the international banker, I'll explain how in a later post, as for now, I could really use it to my advantage if I knew what affected the loan rates (going from 2.9% to 10%). I would REALLY like to know.
As for the world domination thing, as I said, I'll explain in another post as it's pretty complicated, diabolically clever  ! I can tell you that using the loaning technique properly is, in the long run, more devastating to rivals than nuking them.
If I knew what manipulates loan rates, it would make it a heck of a lot easier to gain and keep control. :mwaha:

Wrong forum?

No, not wrong forum (Strategy & Tips).

Why don't you make a post explaining your loan strategy in detail? No one has a clue what you are talking about.

I make more money by selling new techs than giving loans.

I'm quite curious about your loan strategy too. I've never given a loan, but I can see how you could get the AI so deep in debt that they can't research. Interesting concept. May have to try it.

Do you mean that you give them a lump sum in return for gpt deals

This is a very insightful post. It would seem that you have found a strategy, or a component of a commerce strategy, which I have not read about anywhere else. I have had vague ideas about using the loan request option, however never considered the idea of being the banker. How did you initiate this trade? I assume using a lump sum for a gpt trade agreement. Loan interest rates, well I searched the manual and could not find the word loan in it. Can you please provide some more detail.

I have posted your topic here:

Also look to this post for feedback on this subject. Look forward to hearing more.

Indeed I have. This has opened up a whole new game for me, it's real fun plotting my next take-cover, always struggling to find new ways to gain and keep control. It's renewed my interest in Civ3 when SimCity 4 and Battlefield 1942 were the top-dogs of my attention.

Excellent strategy Azik Blaze :goodjob:

It sounds like a lot of fun, I am going to have to try it in my next game.

Thanks to all for the congrats. I may be getting into more detail about this strategy, with uploads and such, as it's generating quite a bit of interest. Come to think of it, my original article on this subject ( http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46626 ) is really only scratching the surface of how to initiate and utilize the system. I believe there's a lot more potential for this strategy than what I have found thus far.

So, hopefully, going into more detail will appease the skeptics and, hopefully, with more of you trying this new method we'll learn more about it's effectiveness and how to use it in different ways and in different situations.

This is definately one of those strategies that requires 3-dimensional thinking. Whereas 2-d thinking is a direct solution to a problem, 3-d is indirect, picking apart the problem rather than confronting it head-on. Again, I'll discuss this in a later article, when I have more illustrative details to present you.
