How did you get version 1.29f? If you have managed to find that version then
(a) you may be unique. We know it was developed, but it has never been tested and released by MacSoft as far as I know
(b) you certainly don't need to "downgrade" it to version 1.29b2, as 1.29b2 is the beta version.
If, on the other hand, your version is actually 1.21f, or g, or something earlier, then here's what should happen ...
- Do you successfully download the updater file using the link in my signature? If you are using Safari then the Downloads window should show it as having been downloaded. If you haven't changed the defaults then it will be downloaded to your desktop.
- What happens next? If Safari is set to open safe files it should expand the downloaded file to make an installer in the same location called Civ3 1.29b2 Installer. If you don't have this then you'll have to double click the downloaded file to expand it manually.
- Next you have to run the installer by double clicking it. If you are familiar with Windows but new to Macs this may be a novelty, but one of the prices you pay for increased security in Mac OS is that installers can't run by themselves and infect your system.
- When the installer runs it should look for your Civ3 and update it. If there's more than one copy of Civ3 on your system it will ask you to select the one to upgrade.
- If that works the next time you run Civ3 you should see version 1.29b2 in the bottom left corner of the startup screen.
Please let us know which of these steps you are having trouble with.
