Hi, i just got Ivan Pavlov in my capital russian city, also, i got almost the whole colossus wonder, except for two turns. What do i use Ivan for? I can't find info for this anywhere?

I assume Ivan Pavlov is a leader. There are two kind of leaders: MGL and SGL.

MGL can be used to create armies (very usefull in combat) or to rush improvements and Small Wonders.
They can appear when an elite troops wins a battle.

SGL can be used to rush Great Wonders. It should also be able to establish a Science Golden Age but this feature is "broken".
They can appear when you discover a tech that no one has.

First, welcome to CFC! [party]

Ivan is a great leader. Depending on which kind (not sure), Military or scientific leader, you can use him for different things.

Military-
Rush an improvement or small wonder
Build an Army (if you have conquests, this is better choice)

Scientific-
Rush Great Wonder
Start Age of Science (others say the Age of Science dosen't work, but it does for me).

You got a scientific great leader. Use him to hurry a great wonder. I've never got a SGL with the Russians.

And welcome to CFC! [party]

Yes Pavlov was a scientist and so it is surely an SGL. Since you are going to get the Collossus anyway, hold him for some other wonder.

It means that the Scientific golden age doesn't work because it doesn't actually give any bonus. The approximated turns left to the tech will decrease but no extra science is really done.

It works for me...when I was the Germans, before I got Copernicus, Berlin was producing about 39 science, and after I did the Scientific Golden Age, it jumped up to 45 science.

I do have Civ III Complete, so that might make a difference.

It has been documented that the turns to discover a new tech does not change. Assume for a moment that it takes 7 turns to research the next tech and you then start a Scientific Age. It will initially drop to say... 5 turns but the turns to discover will still be 7. The sequence will be something like 5-4-3-3-2-2-1 thus taking the original 7 turns.

It may dispaly the extra science but it doesn't actually go toward the research.

Sorry you were miscalculating the situation, it flat does not work. They know it and did not fix it. Complete is no different than any other C3C that is patched to 1.22F.

As vmxa already stated, you're probably going to get the colossus anyway, so using your leader to rush it is probably a waste. The only exception to this is if you KNOW several other civs are also working on it and think they may be one turn ahead of you and if you really, really need that wonder. By the time your screen says you're down to 1 turn, it WILL be yours for certain.

It's best to hold your scientific leader in reserve and use it to rush a wonder that would otherwise take you 20 or 50 or even 100 turns in just a single turn. Also, use it for something really important to your civ...maybe the Great Lighthouse on an archipeligo map or Theory of Evolution to get 2 free techs that you can't afford to trade and catch up. Smith's Trading Post (saves you lots of gold) and the United Nations (you control whether a vote can be held) can be important for you too.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all the answers, i figured the leader thing out myself finally and used him for science! And later, i got a new one! I don't remember his name right now though. :)

You should use every SGL you get for Wonders. The scientific golden age is broken.

There is no "f" in 1.22. They never bothered to make the last patch and never considered 1.22 finished. They already had our money anyway.

And the developers may have been too busy playing WarCraft3...that may explain why Civ4 may be mistaken for WarCraft4.;)

Welcome to CFC, Lucrecia! [party] Generally, any leader suddenly appear out of no where at your capital is a SGL and you can have more than one at the same time; therefore, you could save Ivan for as long as you like (because that doesn't prevent you from getting more SGL). Of course, MGL is different, you can have only 1 MGL at any given time.
