[BTS] Help me beat Deity

I think the problem was Celts went war mode. Needed to get them to pleased. It should of been a lot easier than I have made it. Taking down Celts has suddenly become a big resource drain.
Yep, same thing happened to me. She declared T67 and I'm toast. I was kinda asking for it by trading her copper, but figured it will get her to pleased faster and she always goes IW anyway for her UU. I also closed borders with her a few turns ago when she was going for a barb city in the SW-peninsula. Should have just let her get that I guess. Also with a different tech path (was beelining CoL more or less) I would have archery now and bowmen would be excellent here. Hinduism was spreading all over the place but didn't get lucky with a random spread.

I still think some peaceful opening is better here than going for catapult war...

Could you of got her to pleased? I think she declared about 15-20 turns later on my save. Could you of bribed an AI on her?

I think Krikay expanded less towards Celts or got lucky and she declared on Germans. With a low food start an early dogpile from 1-2 AI is brutal.

Was so long since so I don't really remember. But reading my post I wrote that I did get dogpiled and reloaded. So just lucky.
I do remember that bismark founded confu in my game, that could have perhaps been a factor?

Nope, no way to get her to pleased (unless we count city gifting, which would slow down the start even more). I think a sensible approach would be to get a hilltop city as a 2nd city to the west as the copper spot isn't contested at all. Pretty sure mining-BW first is best to be able to chop and whip, but then it gets really tough as you kinda need every early tech asap (pottery, fishing, AH, hunting-archery). I'd guess going pottery first is the best way.

edit: T36
Spoiler :
Came to my senses and went AH as 3rd tech. Need to get a productive 2nd city spot, :commerce: can wait. Arrived to the plains hill 1T before Boudica, phew. Since Budi founded a religion, I'm tempted to go writing now for OB, though it feels strange.

Pretty sure wouldn't have played like this without map knowledge though.

So should I continue from that last save. Looking pretty bad as Russians are now plotting too. Ottoman has taken away my ivory too.

I could head back to 925bc before Celts declared. Hmmm.Overall Celts are boxxed in here. At 925bc they had 2 settlers ready and no where to go! Hence she went war mode.Me and Russians pretty much only ones to share borders.

Hmmm dashing for that second site. Good site if you get there quick enough. Also slows her down as she will now send the settler back?

Yeah was hoping for that, but she settled fp+wheat. Guess I can get 6 decent cities still...

You could certainly make something out of your last save, Gumbo ;)

Cities being in bad shape can be accepted while grabbing more land via war, it's more about your later potential.
We can i.e. see some gold & sugar in Boudi's culture for happy later, and former armies can be used as happy guards too with HR.

Jumbos are not needed anymore, just need Cats replaced once you have a certain amount of them.

We have 1 strong AI with Justi (always does well, right Lymo ;)),
and besides war success it's important doing okay on diplo for the remaining game.

Also manage resis well..cancel corn deal & take 8gpt + fish for copper from Peter.
Now rice for spices from Biz, +1 happy more.
Then i turn my slider down, and check how much Justi wants for gems..
18gpt, well okay we just sold something for 8 so why not, expensive but your cities will look very different again with more happy.
Can sell Biz compass for 130g too, and yay we have the invested gold back.

Just writing that so you see what can be done, some might call that micro but it's too important for that term imo.
This process decides how your cities look during tuff times.

Yeah was looking at your save and the things that Fippy suggests make sense. You can also get calendar for compass to gain access to incense for another +1 :).

The only question is who are Russians targeting? My war with Celts has been getting harder as she now has LB, CB and will have engineering in next few turns. She was 9 turns off a few turns back. There is also a slight danger she could cap to Germans. Taking a vassel now could be suicide for diplomacy.

What mainly annoyed me was I captured her capital and zip! Nothing! (Settled general)

So Compass for gold or trade for calendar? He wants 30g too.
Would take 210g to self tech.

I was tweaking trades, Just so much focus on war some micro went out of window.

Too late for new cottages here?

I can build catapults in nearest cities. Rest can go wealth or maybe forges. I still only have 3 workers. Celts have an island city which will be impossible to take given all her triremes.

What to go for science wise here? Poly leads to lit. Albeit everyone has poly. CS is usually a strong tech. 2 AI already have this.

Vienne - Whip for workboat or catapult for 5 turns? +3f per turn. Hmmm. It does have a granary so whip of wb could be good.

So what is my overall goal here? Head for cuirs? Or play out game peacefully? Stay out of religion too?

Hmm..Cuirs are an option, you could tech Natio after CS and wait for Guilds trade.
Edu line is no option here imo, without GS for bulb.

Urgently need a scout in Peter lands yup, anything even a worker (one mining at Camu could go).

Can sell Biz Feuda, he's teching and 130g are nice.
Really struggling for new Cats, would do this in Vienne

Whip at size 4, on one turn you could use the mine and overflow should get you close to workboat.

Thanks. How many pults would you build here? I could start suiciding units to capture final few cities. 3 land cities left. Plus a german mini stack helping. Assuming he does not do something silly like vassal to the Germans first. My gut was 3-4 more. Even that might be overkill.

Okay Celt threat neutralised. Down to one island city that is defended by 6-8 triremes. Do I take her as a vassal? Might just annoy all my neighbours.

Russians and Ottoman are back at war. Not sure who declared on who and if one of them is still plotting. Both getting nowhere.

Someone has just grabbed liberalism. Struggling tech wise here but I have 12 cities. I took losses attacking the celts. His middle city had 5-6 defenders and 50% defences. His final city I just took had mostly melee units. 2 LB too. She had engineering but didn't really use it for castles.

JoaII has 9 gold for trade but wanted my only happiness resource. Hmmm.

Well done ~~
I would take Boudi as vassal.
All AIs like her (Biz will again after peace), Peter even friendly.
City costs are only slightly higher, and you should focus on getting courthouses now anyways.
Being org helps well now.

You can grab Engi from her.
Biggest advantage from having a vassal that nobody dislikes, even if they are small:
later you can gift cities off, i.e. whipping them down for units, and then giving them away instead of paying maintenance.
