Help Monkeyfinger shake off his rust. (Emperor, DeGaulle)

1932 UN

Spoiler :
Well, it was a little rough. Boudica vassaled everyone on the continent (in fact, she was at war with shaka pretty soon after my 1505 checkpoint, and had all others as vassals). The problem with this was mass tech whore sharing garbage. Her vassals mostly liked her :(. Anyway I couldn't get a rifling window. I used steel to trade for a lot of techs, and since I'd had HE in tours since around the 1 AD save I just spammed cannons in there while teching infantry. When I hit AL I of course switch into nationhood and draft draft draft as best I can, but not out of my super hammer cities.

Problem is, in that time booty call tech whored rails and arty to joao . BUT, no infantry at least. It costs some cannon to damage the MGs directly, but oh yes, with that much HE cannon spam, it can be done:

It helps that earlier in the game I walled him off, so I held a considerable hammer advantage from the outset, which quickly snowballed further my way as he lost cities.

Joao gets ground up and destroyed:

From here, internet beeline. Boudica was at pleased (she also doesn't declare at pleased, believe it or not) and on her way to friendly due to favorite civic and really no negative modifiers, and by now she'd capped shaka. Sury broke free of his voluntary stint, but I was stronger than him. Basically, I started building commerce multipliers exclusively outside of 3-4 really hammer-strong cities which went factory/coal.

I easily got computers (nobody had plastics) first and grabbed the internet in my IW city. I teched mass media for jewelers and to gift it to absolutely EVERYONE BUT BOUDICA. I popped a merchant which I used on sushi.

Boudica, despite showing over 40% pop in the victory screen, had less raw pop of her own than me. Sury built the UN. Sury vs me, and guess what? Boudica is friendly:

Instant win, check!

Really though, all I had to do was *not lose* to the UN. I was 4 techs in front of boudica due to the internet giving me like 9 techs  so I was blowing out the tech race, as you can probably guess by the beakers in the final screen up there.

Clocked a sub-3 hr affair in this one:

Hi Monkeyfinger, tired of defending cottages in FfHII?

At least they are quite a bit more powerful here ;) .

@Monkeyfinger

Just wondering if you need more axes. I think it is a bit late for an axe rush but Joao generally doesn't build to many units so you might be OK? Another positive being charasmatic gives quicker promotions so that will help get your CR3 units I think you are going to need quicker.

I'm used to being able to terraform deserts into plains. Well after I settled Lyons I was like "wait... BtS doesn't have terraforming." Crap.

I'm just going to farm the hell out of Lyons's functional tiles and make all the excess pop into scientists, I think.

I played up to around 400 AD, don't have a full writeup yet though. Later today.

As it turns out, I lack the patience to keep updating a topic like this.

Christ. You know, I hadn't played a 4x game for quite a long time before Civ4, so I really loved it at the time. Only after playing other ones, including Civ4 mods, did I appreciate the fact that while the early and late parts of Civ4 have lots of fun stuff in them, the medieval and reniassance eras are so god damn boring and writing about them is like dentistry.
