So, my old laptop gave up the ghost yesterday, and I've starting using a new one. The funny thing is, it doesn't seem to like ToT. I went through the usual motions of installing and patching it, and installing ToTPP, and I got an error I have in the past where it goes to the background to the main menu, but doesn't hit the main menu, instead a Windows dialogue box pops up and says an error has been found with civ2.exe and the program will shut down. The difference, on my old computer, that was easily dealt with with a simple restart. On this one, I've restarted five times in a row, and there's been no change. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to try? It's a Windows 10, 64-bit computer, and I've followed all the technical advice for getting ToT to work on such a computer.

I've tried reinstalling the game from scratch, and I've come across a new problem. What is "MSVCR100.dll" and why has it's absence never been an issue for me to start ToT before (or, if I had it before, where did I get it)?

Just did that, and I'm back to the previous error... :S

To answer Erika's question, it still crashes without the ToTPP installed - the difference being, with the ToTPP installed, it crashes before I can access the main menu, whereas without it, I can choose all the choices prior to starting a game/scenario, and it crashes before the actual game itself starts. Is there anyone who can help me? Catfish, are you out there?

All i can think of is the 64-bit patch not installed properly or possibly an anti-virus program acting stupid. But the menu thing does kinda sound like what MGE did without the 64-bit patch. So it's ToTPP that's most likely giving you problems.

Well, that is bizarre! I reinstalled the ToTPP patch, and started the game again, the only difference being the ToT CD-ROM I installed the game was NOT in the optical disk drive this time. And, lo and behold, it works now! It didn't seem to like the ToT CD-ROM being in the disk drive for some strange reason... :S

I had thought TNO meant the CD is optional, but you don't NEED it. I guess I was wrong... :P
