I just downloaded Blender, the free 3D editing software. I also downloaded the plugin that NifTools released allowing the programs to work with .nif files.

But for some reason, Blender still won't recognize the files even with the plugin. I just downloaded the .exe file and installed it into the default folder. Did I skip a step?

I think you need Python installed on your system, in rder for those Belnder Plugins to work.

 do you try to open or import the nif (the first will not work, you have to import the nif [File -> import -> Netimmerse/Gamebryo -> Scriptwindow will open -> select nif]).

What he means is - there re two possibilities to get a file into Blender: using File->Open or using File->Import. From your description in the other Thread, you are using the right one however...

What makes me wonder is: When i just installed Blender imore than those 3 formats you listed in the Import/Export meny. (There is no Nif out of the box tho). Makes me think something on your Blender Installation is seriously brocken.

I have almost same problem as cfkane. I had an older version of Blender and downloaded the lastest version along with the nif plugin. I can import but get error msgs including "check console." What the heck does that mean? Check it for what? ...cat hair? peanut butter? :)

Actually I think the nif plugin might be for the older version of Blender and there is not an updated one.

afaik not every blender version can be used with every nifscipts version (i use blender 2.45 and nifscrips 2.21 and it works fine so far, 2.3 worked also, 2.31 gave me an error - so i went back to 2.21, Edit: changed today to blender 2.46 and nifscripts 2.33 and run in no big problem so far)
