help w/ war

so im mongolian and its 1930ish. ive got lots of cities and a booming economy. i was able to extort money from china (my neighbor) for 4 turns before he started turning me down. so i decided to war dec him and have taken two cities. the prob is that about the time i war dec'd he got infantry and ive still only got musketmen. so im geting owned but w/ such an overwhelming force i was able to take 2 cities w/ very heavy losses. but now they have machine guns, and ive still got muskets.......

am i screwed? ive got way more money and lots of soldiers, but his 1 machine gun unit is taking out like 6 of my musketmen/spearmen/mounted units.

First question... what prompted you to threaten someone with a vasly superior military force and then declare war on them?

well, when i attacked they had just gotten muskets and ive had them for at least10 turns. so i thought i had the tech advantage.

btw, yes i am a noob to civ. this is actually the first one ive palyed and is a quite enjoyable alternative when eve-online is slow.

Bombardment my friend. Use cannons to drop the city defense down to zero before any attacks. Then sacrifice a couple cannons to attack and do collateral damage.

You did build them in a barracks and pick collaterl as you promtion right? If you know you are going to war, consider switching to a civic that gets extra boost for XP and production for troops.

It is possible to pop out units and get two promotions. If you get decent collateral on his stacks they can be taken down.
