Seed is a random number that is the base for the world creation. If you use the same seed with different Age, land type, and what not, you can see how the world comes out similar.

You could throw a number in there, and if you like that map and want to play again with a different civ, you can reuse that number. But it's nothing you need to pay attention too. The program automatically creates a random seed if none specified.

Sure hope I explained that right.

All that Turner said is correct, yes. I'm adding one more thing:

To find the seed, you can go to your Civ3/PTW/C3C folder, and select the .ini file (it's named Civilization3.ini, Conquests.ini, etc). There, you'll see "Seed=########". That's the seed for your latest game.

Alternatively, you can use ainwood's Seed Beast utility to find the seed AND settings (age, climate, etc) of the game.

Or you could select "play last world" on the menu and it'll put in the seed from your last game automatically
