I want to upgrade my processer however since my motherboard is only rated for at most 450mhz, I also need a new motherboard, and since my RAM is 168 pin type I also need to get new RAM. :( This is so gonna cost me a lot of money. What I need to know is if the three products I picked out go together (I really wish best buy would show me what products go together). BTW buying off the internet is off limits to me since my father told me I ain't gonna be using his credit card to buy this stuff and I don't have my own.:(

Anyways the products

Processer

RAM

Motherboard

Actually, buying a 256 MB instead of 2 128's is cheaper. It would also be easier to install, as you only need to plug one in, instead of two. :p

maybe just getting a new computer would be better in the long run ;)

:hmm: I can't seem to get to any of your links, even though i have bestbuy.com set as alwasy allow for cookies

Why don't you want to buy on-line? Newegg is pretty cheap.

Are you planning on upgrading again in the future? If so, then you might want to wait a few months until PCI-Express gets out-and-about more. Its the new standard, and promises much faster speeds. In addition, it will mean that AGP-based video-cards will be phased-out.

Yeah that is cheaper but I can only buy it online.

Buying a single 256MB stick is cheaper than 2 128MB sticks anyway. (It is over here, can't see why it'd be any different over there). So if you can get that in the shop, go for it.

Read the first post again. He can't. ;)

Your pops needs to get a credit card devoted to just buying products online if he's scared about security. Because seriously, you would be saving $30 on the processor; $12 on the RAM; and you'd have to get a different (but better) motherboard, because they don't sell that particular model on Newegg anymore - but you can just as easily pick up far better boards for the same price if not for less - like one that has an Nforce chipset.

Surely its negotiable - pay the money to his father up-front. On-line tends to be a bit cheaper.
Hmmm, maybe your right.:hmm:

@Jeratain: I plan to get my parents to buy me the RAM for christmas. :p So I would much rather they go to best buy where the RAM is behind a counter and you have to tell the guy your computer specs before you get them. :p :mischief:But $30 cheaper on the proceser.... And I only chose that mother board model because of it's cheapness. :p

Indeed they do! :) Thanks for the website suggestion. Far far cheaper then best buy. Total cost: $142. With best buy it was gonna be a little over $300(only because of the sales tax other wise it would be $269). Much easier to buy stuff to. Getting an intel celeron at 2.4GHz with a 400MHZ fsb for only $66

BTW what are those very expensive Xeon processers for?

Celeron is fine unless you are gonna play Doom 3 or something at max graphics. I have a 466 celeron that runs Civ 3 and Conquests fine.

Athlons and Durons are fairly much cheaper and usually faster, BTW. :)

hmmmmm, sounds ok. I go with the celeron and if I don't like it I can always upgrade to a P4. :)

Maybe. But I am lazy and don't want to change anything on my sales now that I have confirmed what processer I am gonna get. :p

@Mikoyan: No boom? :( :mischief:
