help with hotseat game

For some reason whenever i start up a hotseat or email game, it crashes. When you click on the launch button, it starts loading, but then it freezes when it says: assigning player colors. Can anyone PLEASE help me? I have CivIII Conquests v. 1.22

so...can anyone help me? Did i not give enough information? If so, I have a computer with a Celeron 1.80 Ghz CPU and 224 MB of RAM, and I'm playing Conquests v.1.22 built off Civilization III Gold Edition.

I'm having the identical problem. Worked for hours but can't make it work. Freezes when assigning player colors.
