This is my first noble game and I was wanting to get some help with playing better. I was wanting to do a game similar to the ALC games, the settings are the same except noble difficulty playing as Genghis Khan. This is on the new patched warlords game. I Would also like tips on how much and when to whip, what techs to prioritize, what units to build, and what buildings to prioritize. Especially from 4000BC to about 1000AD

First up, good idea to start a thread on Noble. we need one especially after Menes disappeared with his Prince(?) level one.

Good start position. Plenty of production coupled with the floodplains for food to feed them. I would avoid chopping any forests to keep what health you have to offset the unhealthy of the floodplains.

Tech-wise, tough one, because you have
Spoiler :
pigs
which will need Animal husbandry, and your Keshiks will need it too, but this path leaves you far from Mining and bronze for the slavery and axes.Wait for better advice on this one.

I would build a warrior or scout to allow the city to grow a couple of pop points before building a worker, then worker, then settler. Scout hard and look after your scouts.

Thanks for the tips. Does anyone have any ideas were i should settle? I'm think about settling in place. what direction should i send my scout to start exploring. Also should I move my scout 1 tile NW then 1 tile SW to see whats in that direction before I settle?

edit:I'll most likely post Round 2 late tonight or tomorrow morning

Move your scout to the hills 2W of the settler first to check the surrounding area.

I would settle in place. 95% of the time it's the right choice, except for those rare circumstances where moving 1 square will get you the coast and/or fresh water.

As far as scouting, I would send him 1 NE, then 1 SE - if there's a huge amount of resources in that direction (unlikely), it might be worth it to move your settler 1 square before founding your capital. Your starting spot looks pretty good, though - nice mix of food and hills - and if you can't find any other decent spots for a commerce city (you WILL need commerce, even as Genghis), you can always cottage the floodplains and still have good production.

actualy thats what i ment to say not NW ans SW:lol:

well i settled 1 tile north because after seeing what was around me i would be putting most of the southern river tiles in my city and alot in th east, so after settling i started working on a scout in karakorum, and started researching AH

and sent my scout north

i found a goody hut as well

heres the map so far at 3400BC any ideas on were to settle first? were to continue exploring?

edit: i forgot to mention that i started working on a worker after my scout finished

I'd send the yet-to-be built Settler down to the coastal desert hill near the Horses, and look at Horseback Riding as one of your next few technologies in order to leverage your leader's traits. There's some argument for the flood plains above it - but you'll need a border pop and there will be overlap.

The Scout that's healing near there should go down there to check out whether there's a seafood resource.

The Scout in the north can fog-bust at the forested hill north of the capital.

The third scout ... well he just needs :health: before you can consider moving him.

I agree with CamH on the second city. You might want to consider whipping a barracks after your worker is complete.

The settler is a ways away and you will have bronze working well before that. Maybe you should decide on your second city after BW is in. Scouting is now very important so you can see any copper if it turns up.

Fishing could be more useful than horseback ridng in the short term as there are some good seafood resources around.

Settle on tile above the horses. After border pop you will be able to work the flood plains (farm them) and mine the hills. This will create a great production city to build a few troops and the Oracle (possibly other wonders, you have stones near by, maybe the GW or the pyramids). You have to research mystism to be able to build the monuments for the border pop. You want to settle south of the capital anyway, because there seems to be no AI to the north. So secure much of the southern part as much as possible.

Everyone here has given pretty good advice. There's not much for me to add at this point, except:

Remeber that you're Imperialistic!

While for most, the 100% Great General rate is the main selling point for Imp, don't forget that you also get the 50% bonus on hammers for Settler production. With that in mind, I would definitely suggest a 2nd worker out first. You should pasture up those pigs and then mine one of those grassland hills river squares. Besides, you're going to need to get a road down to those horses ASAP.

Ordinarily, I would also suggest chopping a forest or two, but given your location in the middle of floodplains, I wouldn't touch those trees, because you need them for the :health:

well I'm thinking my second city should be either 1 tile north of the horses or on the desert hill to the NW of them, that is unless i find some copper nearby. my question now is what techs i should start researching after BW is finished, I'm thinking about researching pottery soon. Since I already have AH should i try to beeline to alphabet?

I would take a shot at building the Great Wall. You will need to research masonry. This combined with Imperialistic will you an excellent military edge.

As for what to research, I would suggest the basic worker techs and Iron working. Of course, I am assuming you are going for some sort of military victory.

as of right now this is what I'm thinking about doing
after researching BW research:
1.agri
2.pottery
3.mysticism
4.meditation
5.priesthood
6.writing

then grabbing alphabet, metal casting, or code of laws with the oracle(assuming i build it in time). i might change it a little if i don't find any other leaders or don't find any copper

I'm thinking about sending the scout just a little NE of my capital up north to make sure there isn't anything up there such as goody huts then bringing him back to the forested hill to the north of Karakorum, and send my other two scouts south with the one by the horses exploring on the west side and the other the east side.

any final ideas, comments, etc. before round 3?

edit: i forgot about horse back riding any ideas on when to start researching it maybe either after pottery or priesthood

Personally I would grab Horseback Riding in the very near future (not necessarily the next tech' - but soon) - Keshiks will be able to deal with all of your Barbarian problems and make great scouts. Again, you also get your unique building with massive XPs out of the blocks for these units.

You seem isolated so far with a lot of space to work with, and so if you do go to war, you'll probably be doing more razing than capturing and holding.

normally i'd advice writing asap (= just after AH) then alphabet, but having noone to trade with, this is going nowhere.

Check the religious screen for me.
I'd go for hinduism then priesthood for the oracle, then metal casting while building it = free machinery.
Don't spare the forests, you have enough health bonus around.

well this has been kind of a short yet boring round nothing really happened other than finding my 2 distant neighbors and finding copper close by

any ideas on were i should settle? I'm think about trying to get the copper before Cathy(assuming she has BW). then grabbing the horses.
BTW i played this round twice now the first on Cathy beat me to the copper but i didn't chop rush the settler though this time i did so the oracle is pretty much out of the question at least in Karakorum though
