help with speedinfo.xml

You mean GameSpeedInfo? Matching increments to the eras and techs is trial and error. A simple way is to just set the increments so that the total number of turns adds up to 1000, then start advanced games in each era so you know the percentage of the game alloted for each era. I calibrated my Future mod on Epic by simply playing game after game and seeing approximately where civs were related to real history. Then I adusted research and build rates to compensate. Then I guesstimated the other speeds based off of Epic from their relative rates in the standard game, because that was a pain in the neck, except that I didn't want to have a 9 month increment so I had to go to 6, so that kind of messed things up so Normal tends to go too fast.

Of course, you are probably talking about something else.

Tholish,
hi,
thanks for the post...trial and error, well thats what im doing,
i was looking for some formula or somthing,
there was a modder here a long time ago, who new to canculate the exact numbers of each tag in the speed file, but he left the site a long time ago...
so i was hoping for sonthing like this.

oh well, thanks anyway,
g'luck with futuremod.

I used some formulas in a spreadsheet as an aid in creating my own custom game speeds. But ultimately it is trial and error. Formulas are good to give you a starting point.

For instance, I wanted a more realistic timing for eras in my custom game speed. So I had the AIs play a game against each other. Then I recorded in what year and turn the AIs entered each era. By knowing by how much the AIs were ahead of the intended tech level for a given year/turn, I could then use a formula to tell me more or less by how much I had to slow down the tech rate. If one era went by faster than I wanted, relative to other eras, I could use a formula to re-allot the years.

But anyway, I would suggest getting something like the Better BTS AI mod because it lets you set AI Autoplay. This is invaluable for trial and error testing.

NP300,

hi,

yeah thanks im using the a-ai to set the time line,

i almost get it right, but,
my main problem is setting the unit and building costs,
but ill think ill succeed eventually,

i could use elaboration on what each tag of the speeds is related to, awell atleat a few of them..

:)

thanks.
