Help...

Hi,
I've had Civ III Gold Edition for a while, and today decided to download one of these auto-trainer bar things, but needed Version 29f. I only had 27f, so I download the patch, and install it, and nothing happens. The Version number in the menu and everything stays at 27f. Then I see that all the files that I use, my saved games, and the .exe that the CD runs are all in a sub-folder of the main Civilization folder, 'PTW'. So I install the patch in there, and, err, now it doesn't work at all. I run the disc and it comes up with the little box where you choose to play or uninstall or whatever, I click play, it comes up with a different splash screen than it used to, and the CD whirs and whirs, but nothing happens after that, and it doesn't use any CPU.

So what I'm asking is;

How do I fix my game and make it work again?
And how do I install this patch so I can use the bar?

Well, if you have gold or complete, you don't need to patch. They come fully patched. In fact, patching them tends to cause the program to look for a different CD, and you end up not being able to play.

So unistall the patch you installed.

By Version 29f, I'm assuming you mean 1.29f, right? That's the last 'Vanilla' Civ3 patch. Since you're playing Gold, you're probably playing Play The World (PTW). And since you said 'Version 27f', I'm guess that's what it is, as the last patch for Play The World was 1.27f. Anyways...

I haven't used the program in question. Is it one you got from here? Best to ask in the thread you downloaded it from, because the developer of the program will know best on how to help you. You might want to browse through the thread as well, because this problem may have already come up, and been solved.

Not much help, I know. But if you post back what auto-trainer-bar-thingy you're using, and where you got it from, we can start to help you out on it.

Thanks, but does anyone know how to fix my game now? I tried ran the patch file again to uninstall it, but it didn't affect anything, even after it said it was uninstalled etc again.

Well, there doesn't seem to be any soloution except to reinstall my game... Guess I'll do that now, then.


Edit: I've reinstalled, and the game works fine again, but the PowerBar doesn't work. I've selected to use the PTW 1.27f version, pressed LOAD when in the game screen, and it comes up with a loading bar and the word "Loading", but the bar doesn't fill at all and nothing happens.

Oh well.
