I have a big problem!i have started a new game, with a map size of Huge, and the climate such as real life(North and South of the World are colder and have more snow).Ok,when i made the map,i started a game and i find myself on an Island in the deep deep south,ok no problem with me!but than i find out that my island is 98% snow and 2% grassland. How am i soppose to work with resources like that?I dont wanna make a 100% trade economy with other civs because, that will open me up to an Economic down fall at anytime. So,if any of you have tips on what i should do,to work my island with its terrain type for all the resources its worth,i will be thankful. :egypt: :

I am just guessing that this game might be on Chieftain of Warlord level and if it is, then I would abort the game and not attempt games on huge maps on that low of a level. With a sucky start position you can still easily win on these difficulty levels but huge maps can be teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerminal tedium because you have such a slow start and such slow AI opponents.

Yes Huge games can be epic, but if you might feel uncomfortable planning at the regent level, then huge maps might disappoint you more than they might excite you.

If you are playing at a higher difficulty level then you have anuber of options, but the answer to your question will depend on:

What civ are you playing as?
What patch do you have loaded?
What difficulty level ar you on?
Are you playing the standard rules or have you modded the game?
How many games have you played at regent or above?

If you are on an all tundra island, you have 2 options.

1. Start a new game.

2. Be very wise where you place your cities. You want to try and get city sites that will grow as big as possible (look for fish or whales on the coast, or game on the tundra). You should hopefully have some city sites that will allow you to grow past size 3, if you can't grow past size 2, you are screwed. Set science to 100% and go straight for mapmaking. You need some galleys to get off that island and onto more fertile land.

Edit: Also, mapmaking will let you build harbors, which is a must for food and money. Then your only problem will be production.

You should check out Aeson's thread over at Apolyton titled "So very cold (of the map generator)". He started on an all tundra island on Deity and pulled off a win.
