Right its C3C, you are playing the Celts, Monarch, Victory Points set at 65000.

You have already eliminated the Chinese, and your Swordsmen are running rampage.

Have a try at 250BC

note the screenshot was originally 1600x1200 but I had to knock it down to "Save for web @ 10% JPG" with Photoshop so it might look a bit ugly

It's me again, right down to business

1) I will post my final score for this game ... will you?
2) We are talking the G3 and G4 community here ... get my drift
3) "Alan H" is this OK
4) Subject to 3) being OK ... If you have any games C3C or Vanilla MAC you have started and think that they would be good share UL the save :)

You need to convince me, as I'm not sure what you expect to achieve.

The Mac forums are for discussing Mac-specific issues. The actual game of Civ3 requires the same skills and techniques whether you play it on a Mac or a PC. There are no Mac-specific issues involved, and there are many more players on PCs, including some with higher skill levels than the best Mac players I know of.

If you want to create a competition, then what's wrong with the ones we already run in the GOTM and HoF forums? If you want people to comment on your game so far, or suggest ways to complete it, then surely you would get a wider range of more expert opinion if you posted the game in the general forums.

Yes I agree on that

This is the point I am trying to get at, on the MAC Platform how long have we had C3C (I have had had it about 4 months) and it is on hell of a lot more challanging than Civ3 Vanilla. So lets hone our skills on the same level

There is nothing wrong with them IMOA but ....

You said it "MacFanatics Game of The Month"

As previously stated this aimed at users with either a G3 or G4 ... not every one can afford to splash out on a new Intel based Mac for running CIV4 (mind you my average earnings over the last 4 years is aprox. £65K per annum ... BTW I do own a G5 2gigDP but if I known at the time about the switch to Intel I would have saved my dosh and left it on the shelf)

Are you suggesting that you can find more players at your own level of performance here than you can in the open Civ3 forums? I would have to disagree. We have maybe 50 Civ3 players here, many of whom appear once in a blue moon. Of those we may lose 30-50% to Civ4. Assuming these are distributed across the skill spectrum, I would hazard a guess that you might find three or four who would want to get involved in .... what exactly? You still haven't explained what you want players to do with your saves.

Yes. We had a zero response from Mac players to a Mac-special in the GOTM. Do you think Mac players will be more likely to join in your exercise than in the GOTM? Where they can learn by playing the same game as forty or fifty other players at all skill levels, many of whom provide spoiler write-ups to show how they achieved their results? Or in the SGOTM, where they can play alongside a team of experienced players and learn from them?

As previously stated this aimed at users with either a G3 or G4 ...
Why not hope to include a P4 or Athlon as well? What's special about your save that it needs to be played on a G3 or G4? Sorry, I still don't get it.

Alan, just play the Game I have posted ... then you will realise why

Within 10 moves
  • I got given a Leader - a settler had just cleared some jungle
  • I then got informed I had wiped out the Dutch (even though I had not attacked them
  • I suddenly got given the temple of Artimis even though I was not building it
  • Then an Army of Death (Zulu) appeared from nowhere, and without declaring war I was told I lost the game

Now this might seem par for the course for an experienced WINDOZE player, it seems rather strange to me, that is why it is in the MAC section

Now I understand! If you are reporting bugs then it all becomes clear. But that was not what was indicated by your first post.

I certainly wasn't planning to download it just to play someone else's half-finished game, but I'll have a look at it now to see if it's repeatable. However, I suspect that it would be far more useful to send it to Brad at Aspyr, as no one here can find or fix a bug like that unless you are using a mod.

Glad you are with me :goodjob:

But is it a bug or my way of playing, I normaly play with victory set at defualt (50000)

I noticed that in this game both opponents that I first met (Chinese and Iroqoius) as soon as you attack their Civilizations they abandon all their towns and cities and just leave themselves their Capitol

I don't think it's 10.4.7 thats the problem .... more like it's a B@@@@@D of a senerio I have created. If anyone on a P3 or P4 wants to try it go for it.

BTW - my daughter tried the game (she was a 650% on Diety CIV2 GOLD) and she got this far - attached

I've not tried playing with Victory Points, so this whole scenario is alien to me. Looking at the save, at the details of the setup, and the effects you are seeing, I'd hazard a guess that you've changed more than just the Victory Points limit. Changing that wouldn't have any major impact, as it's just a number.

I've tried playing the game for a few turns and nothing strange happened, but I'm really not sure what you were trying to do with it, so I very much doubt whether I repeated any of your moves.

Looking at your in-game Victory screen I see that you also have Instant Elimination enabled, with 1 city loss resulting in destruction of the civ. This probably explains the instant destruction of China. I can only theorise that the Iroquois survived by respawning their capital. If the zulu SOD captured one of your cities then that would explain why you died, though the absence of a declaration of war is strange. I cannot explain why you were gifted the Temple of Artemis and a leader.

I suspect you are right that you have set up some strange game conditions, but all these strange victory conditions mean very little to me. I still think you'd get better input in the main forums, where there are lots of players who have seen it all, done it all, and can advise whether what you are seeing is par for the course.

[PS] Here's a perfect example of what I'm saying. I posted this, looked at the RSS feed, and found a thread in the general Civ3 forums started by someone who had been beated to a wonder by the AI, even though they investigated and knew they were ahead the previous turn. One suggestion was that the civ may have got a scientific great leader to build the wonder, which happens if a civ is the first to complete a tech. Did your leader arrive as a result of completing a tech?

What mods are you playing with? How is it in windowed mode? Why do the boarders look all wavy? And finally, is the game zoomed out more than usual? How do you do these things? I want to zoom out and play in windowed mode!

To modify the display options, hold down the Command key while Civ3 launches. It should bring up a dialog where you can choose screen resolution, window or full screen, and some other options.

Sorry about the screenshot quality I had to reduce the .jpg to 10% (1600x1200 takes a fair bit of KB and there are UL restrictions)

1. Yes it is "Windowed Mode" (1280x1024) and you can access this easy enough (see AlanH's reply)
2. The boarders look wavy because I'm using the "ARES Terrain" mod pack (do search on this site and you will find it (dont swap around the 3rd and 4th letters ;) )
3. Yes the game is zoomed out

How do you zoom?

According to the manual (a pdf file that should be in your C3C folder) you can togle between zoom levels with the [z] key.

Wow I am so excited. I have only been a member of this forum for less than 24 hours and I have already learned two things that I am going to use a ton! Thats awesome.
