Playing a game and noticed that Shaka has this unit called Heroes of the Sword...is that from a quest?

I had this once happen to one of my own swordsman. It's a random event, that gives a swordsman some free experience or a promotion. I don't remember exactly, but I know, that the name was also changed.

I think this is it:
Event6
At the Sword
Prereq: 1 damaged Swordsman
Obsolete: MACHINERY or FEUDALISM or MUSIC or PHILOSOPHY or CIVIL_SERVICE or THEOLOGY
Active/Weight: 100/500
Result:
1.the chosen Swordsman gains 3 XP

I had that quest once and had to build a certin number of swordsman. After I hit the magic number all of my swordsmen got the drill 1 promo and renamed. I think all future units got it to.

That's a different quest; the "Hero of the Sword" quest only affects one swordsman unit.

As Honkoid said, Horoes of the Sword is a Random Event - dont mess up REs and quests...

Pardon me resurrecting this, but I think many will benefit from knowing such random events exist.

Are there (many) other random events which just look to the uninitiated like the computer is blatantly cheating? When this happened to an enemy unit in my territory recently, I could only conclude that the game had starting cheating due to being a bad loser. On a related note, are there many random events that have an element of the 'supernatural' like this?

FYI, not only was the unit promoted (with the extra XP, which can happen anyway), it was also restored to full strength (not just a 0.1 or 0.2, this was from 1.5 to 6).

It gave me a nasty shock. I'm not sure if I can continue that save due to how I reacted. I think others like me would want to know before it happens to them.

I can't stop you replying: "Well just switch events off!" If someone could answer my questions, depending on the answers, I might just have to do that. Then again, 'forewarned is forearmed' to a large extent.

There's a full list of events, including the chances of each of them happening, here. Some of them are quite plausible - forges catching fire, roads being washed out, etc. Superhero units, holy mountains and Bermuda triangles are less so. But IMO they are all mildly annoying to game-breaking.

Solutions? Well you could, I guess, edit Civ4EventInfos.xml to make the ones you don't like impossible or of no effect. If all you want is an alert, that should appear anyway at the top of the screen, although in general terms (for this one, it's "[Name of Civ] soldiers have rallied behind their heroes of the sword", not "The swordsman you thought was nearly dead has made a miraculous recovery."). But many of us just switch them off.

If I'm playing a forum game, moving up a level, or trying a specific strategy, huts and events are turned off because of their random nature. If I'm just sitting down for a fun game I'll leave them on for flavor. I also leave them on if I play the earth map, to balance out knowledge of the map. You gotta have SOME randomness to that Map.
