I want/need to change my IP address. The problem is that I get my internet through the cable company in the US. I can change my computer's IP address, but the cable box connects to the internet with it's IP address, which shows everyone where I live. I know I can reset the box and get a different address, but I need to look like I'm connecting from a different state. I can't seem to find a work around the problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

If you need it so badly, I'm sure you can figure it out on your own :)

Here is what I got from the Internet Security Systems website.

A common misconception is that "IP spoofing" can be used to hide your IP address while surfing the Internet, chatting on-line, sending e-mail, and so forth. This is generally not true. Forging the source IP address causes the responses to be misdirected, meaning you cannot create a normal network connection.
and this one from New Order.
Before we continue I would like to tell you that IP Spoofing is quite difficult to understand and a lot of people have trouble understanding how it is done. The other downside it has is the fact that it can almost not be done using a Windows system and a system administrator can easily protect his system from IP spoofing
I want to trick Major Leauge Baseball's website, so it doesn't look like this is something that will work against them. Thanks for the idea, though.

IP spoofing is not really possible per se, if you understand how the system works it's pretty obvious that it can't work. every machine on the net is identified by a unique IP (or at least the unique IP of your NAT-router). if you spoof your IP, your request may get through, the server might process your request and send it to the faked address. but since this faked adress isn't really you it won't ever arrive at your machine... (it's like ordering something but supplying a wrong address, you'll never get the package....).

you can however use proxies as warpus said. that way, you won't connect directly to the site, but through an intermediary (the proxy). the server will then only see the ip of the proxy (and therefore think you're in the state where the proxy is located).

a common anonmyizer service that uses proxies is JAP

Google for "anonymizer"

I was using ProxyWay and it wasn't working, but that JAP program worked like a charm. Thanks Kaeptn and everyone else. Now I can watch baseball on my computer. And with my 500th post, I'd like to say that I love CFC and everyone here is great!
