How to install: Go to either the 256x256 or the 512x512 folder, depending on the level
of detail you want (I only recommend the 512x512 if you're playing on a 22" or bigger), copy the assets folder
and paste it to your Civilization 4 folder. A piece of cake, eh? ;D

Oh it won't be that bad, if I can play crysis at max I can definitely handle this :D
I'll probably release two other versions with it; resized to 128 or 256 for those that want performance rather than looks.

well.
i noticed, that even my 256 textures i use for FfH are not displayed in their full glory, as the zoom distance is too far away.
furhermore even if you lower the zoom distance, i think it definitely looks odd, if you dont create high def terrain, too. otherwise you have high def faces in a soup of pixelbackground ;)

otherwise, keep up th nice work ;)

Looks awesome! But think of it this way: you could make two awesome 256x256 textures instead of one 512x512 texture! Most of my textures are 256 and they're a massive improvement over the vanilla 128x128 sized ones.. also at the zoom distance of civ, the fine details you put into it are lost. :(

Also you mentioned you're a 3D artist as well, do you have 3ds Max, or Blender? or another program?

Oh I do also have 3ds Max 8 for the said reason (plus my HL2 .smd importer also only works for max 8) and Max 2008 ;D

Anyways, I've been kinda busy with other stuff and I'll get back to this ASAP.

Well there's a quick but interesting thing that I did to the infantry's helmet in max.. I applied a mesh smooth modifier and used I think it was quad output or maybe classic, and set the iterations to 1 and it looked 1000x better than the low-poly version. Of course it beefs the poly count up a bit, but it's nice and easy and looks awesome, it would go well with your 512x512 texture. ;)

Anyway if you're modelling skills are as good as your texturing skills then I'm expecting some spectacular units from you. :D

Very interesting project :)

Could anybody help me a bit; I have no idea how to use specular or normal maps with Civ 4 D:

Spec and Normal map aren't used on units. They don't have a lot of poly anyway, so the normal map may look strange on a low poly mesh. Like Chuggi said, with the amount of details you want to put into your reskin, you should do Leaderhead. They have a better resolution, they use specular and normal map and they are made to be seen closer than units.

Hey Millenia, can I use the newest version of your texture? I use 256 textures for almost all of my new units and I know that my infantry units would look 1000 x better with that rifle. :) I'll give you credit for your perfection, of course. ;)
