Is it just me or does that not make any sense if your state religion is hinduism. I know different people do different things but I do not believe an Orthodox Hindu consumes dairy or meat from a cow at least.

Haha... I'm not sure this is in the right forum... but at the very least, it opens up a debate for making religions have their own positives and negatives through modding.

Hindus do not eat cows or drink milk. If you go to India you will see "feral cows" wandering the streets like dogs or cats in the US. Under Hinduism, cows are the highest level of reincarnation one can achieve. If you live a good life you could come back as a cow. They don't eat cows because it could be somebody's relative.

Is this some kind of joke? If you are hindu then don't work the cow resource.

Ok let me clarify a little. Hindu don't eat cows, but we are allowed to consume dairy products.

So in a sense it makes some sense to have the cows produce a food resource since it does give dairy. Anyway Hindus probably ate cows in ancient times in the eras before that of Buddha or Krishna.

Next, cow are not considered the highest incarnation...that title goes to mankind since we have the highest cognitive developements. You can only gain enlightenment if you are a human (except some rare exceptions). If you are born an animal it means you did something bad to gain animal birth. A human gaining cow birth means that the human went backwards in his/her evolution.

We do not eat cows because the cow gives us milk so it is elevated to a maternal-like figure for us, and hence we respect it. So basically we respect cows, but don't worship them, and we do obtain dairy from cows, just not meat...[/

No I was not joking I just found the fact that something taboo for these religions was allowed to give a bonus to people with that state religion. The point can be argued for the health bonus and dairy but as was pointed out the Jewish pig bonus I doesn't make any sense. That would be interesting to allow different bonuses for resourses based on religion, such as a happiness bonus for cows instead of health for example. I wonder if the designers took that into account and decided it would not be worth the hassle to implement.
Thanks for correcting me on the dairy issue civilleader.

And also take away the crab resources for Jews too ;)

The aim was all along to make the religions exactly the same, except give them an historically relevant name, based on where they are in the tech-tree.

Thank you for the cultural clarification. :)

Of course, you could create a mod that somehow "balances" the various state religions with their dietary requirements. Give those religions that can't use certain food resources a bonus elsewhere.
