Hinge of Fate - World War 2, 1941-1945

That means we just need 1 more for a 6 player game. Germany and the Minor Axis are still available, take your pick.
I don't mind trying to play this PBEM.

BUT I would not like the responsability of playing with the Germany against such veterans players! Also I've never tried the scenario so I still need to get acquainted with it.

If there is a minor country available, I would like to play and learn.

K, can you kinda explain how it works?

And Id like to be the Minor Axis

EDIT: Oops, looks like someone already has Minor Axis, I suppose I'll be Germany then.

Playing Germany will be quite difficult for the new player. I don't recommend it.

Some German tactics can be reviewed by going through the entire thread, but pay specific attention to Pg 11 Post 202 and Pg 15 Post 288.

Germany needs to mass concentrate forces, saturating the defenses of their opponent and defeat them in detail. That means concentrating bombardment (air / unit) to weaken an opponent, then hammer them with strong units (usually INF corps grouped into Armies or Tank Corps grouped into Armies).

Use radar towers effectively to enhance your offensive combat potential.

Negate your opponents mobility by using your superior airforce to cut essential road / rail tiles in Russia. Use your surplus ME-109s to scout out terrain so you know where your enemy is.

At the start of the scenario, coordinate closely with your Minor Axis ally on tactics & strategy.

Germany must play boldly, not timidly, to defeat or greatly reduce Russia to have a hope of winning. Beware the Russian counterattack (especially with their Tank Corps against your weakened armies). Make sure if you attack that your left over units are well defended (or better make sure the Russian can't move any reinforcements to get at you).

Despair, don't be despaired ( ) - you were first, so the Minor Axis are rightfully yours, Mr. Mussolini! :p

If there is any vacant (Minor Allies or China) I'll take it... if not... I'll wait for the next opportunity.

Comments from Japan on the game

The war in the Pacific was fun, especially when I was able to take Pearl Harbour. Sully stopped any further progress after that. Progress in China was slow but steady. They had lots of weak units whereas I had fewer but more powerful units. It took a bit of time to wipe them out before advancing. The Japanese economy is pretty weak too so it takes a long time to build up. Tokyo was producing one army every 3 turns but I had a hard time producing enough tank and infantry corps to fill them with. Each of my armies only had 2 units inside but the attack and movement factor made them unstoppable by the Chinese. I bombed the roads in China isolating every city. This left him playing defensively waiting for my armies and artillery to show up. His fighters managed to shoot down a fair number of my planes but my air superiority was so overwhelming that this didn't matter much.

Although I had allies it felt like I was playing alone because there was nothing much we could do to help each other being so far apart. So we were fighting our own separate wars. I developed Intelligence and had spies in USA, Commonwealth. Not being at war with Russia, I was able to investigate its cities and pass on the information to Misfit. I only did this once but could have done it more if necessary. My spies revealed that Australia was pretty weak so I sent an invasion force there capturing Darwin and was preparing to target other cities. I also had a marine set to land in Perth next turn.

All in all, well made scenario. It would be nice if I had a little more production capacity but I guess everyone wants that. Took quite a while to play a round of turns but otherwise great fun.

So it looks like our present game is over? If so it would seem all spots are taken but feel free to contact me if you need a replacement. I've sent most of my comments to Eric already. I believe he's addressing most of my issues concerning city infrastructure. This was the main issue I saw though other than the Pacific skirmishes I didn't have much combat.
The main thing is trying to capture the increasing ability of production. It seems there was a definite lack of shield producing squares around most of the cities. The US shouldn't have to be scrimping on shields. Every coastal city needs harbor, commercial dock, factories, Manufacturing plants etc.
The other thing is that by 1943 the US production capability was incredible. Ships were being built in days not weeks nor months. Limiting producing cities hurts the US. I understand the rationale and it makes sense. So I might suggest a couple of unique, cheap small wonders for the US.
1) the DD/DDE Small Wonder. Pumps out one ship every one or two turns.
2) Shipyard Wonder; Pumps out a BB or CV every 2-3 turns
These two unique US wonders would reflect the massive shipyard production capability of the US.
3) USAAF Wonder; available in late 1942. Pumps out a B-17 in every city with an airport every 3 turns. THis one would be a little more expensive.
4) Naval Air Wonder. The US Navy by 1943-44 was pumping out Naval and Marine air units every couple of months.

Just some things to consider. As it is now..the US production is way under represented. However, I would like to have someone give their opinion as to verify or dispute my observations.

Eric, again you have created a gem! The only downfall I saw was just that we didn't move the game along fast enough.

I want to commend Spartaca (again!) for a great opening strategy against PH. I only regret I didn't have the opportunity to respond in kind.

Again...well done Eric! It will be interesting to see if these scenarios will be compatible with Version 4.

So who are the players/civs for the next game.

I volunteered but don't know if I am in or not...

Yes, you are in! I would like to try it with 6, as Misfit says, the turn time
gets very long with 8.

So far we have:
Misfit - CW + Minor Allies
Myself - Russia
Loulong - Japan
TechGuy - USA + China
Despair888 - Minor Axis
Sully - Germany

Luthor Saxburg, you are the standby player in case anyone
backs out and you are first in line for the next game.

Sully:

There are 2 new wonders in Version 1, but one of them is a CW wonder,
not the USA:
Clyde Shipyards - Located in Scotland, builds DDs
Liberty Ship Production - not built at start, can be built only by a democracy,
builds transports.

Also Charleston, NC is now a major production center.

Sully:

I like these ideas, especially the naval producing wonders. Air units can move around artificially quickly given the CIVIII game engine, but naval wonders still require you to move the unit to the required war theatre. I'd suggest wonders that build DD and CA/BB type units. Make the US player build his own air and CV units (as these can be game breakers).

K, can I get a quick rundown of how this will work?

Despair888:

Have you downloaded version 1? If not go to this thread:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=127474

You will also want to read the text file about the scenario and you should
try a single player game for a few turns at least to make sure eveything
works.

As for the rest of you: you also have to download V1 as the old download
won't work with the new .biq files.

Please confirm once you have done this.

China will start the game and then pass in sequence to the next player.

Axis side will likely exchange emails discussing activities. I strongly urge you to coordinate your actions in North Africa and Ukraine.

In the previous game Germany created had some early success against CW in North Africa but wound up turning over the cities there to Minor Axis to pursue. Minor Axis forces withdrew from Ukraine (eventually winding up in North Africa).

Whatever strategy you use, agree on it early and communicate constantly.

Just downloaded v1.01 and I've realized that I couldn't build the Liberty Ship Production if I went into wartime mobilized mode.
