So after having dealt with two fruitless attempts to get Firaxis to do something about historical accuracy in the game. I've finally just decided to make a mod for it.

Historicity++ - Fixes numerous historical oversights in the game's text.

Notable changes include fixing the Kongolese UU to an attested Central African name and correcting "Sumeria" to "Sumer" as is more commonly used in most circles. Also, MALAYSIA IS NOT KNOWN FOR ITS WATS. This mod will be continually updated as errors arise or are discovered.

To install, extract to your mods folder. This mod is configured to be on by default.

How did you edit the .sql database? When I use a sqllite editor it says the database is encrypted.

I want to edit some of the tooltips on the techtree and civic tree.

Sergei Korolev. The civ guide text:

Born in December 1906 A.D. in the Ukrainian city of Zhitomir, Kororlev managed to survive the First World War, Russian Civil War,
Stalin's purges (during which he was arrested and sent to a concentration camp in Siberia), and the Second World War - no mean feat.

Change to:

Born in December 1906 A.D. in the Ukrainian city of Zhitomir, Korolev managed to survive the First World War and Russian Civil War.
He was sent to a concentration camp in Siberia, during Stalin's purges in 1938 while working on the design of the Katyusha rocket artillery
(which is still being produced, 2016, and being sold by Russia to other countries).
The state (USSR) repressed educated individuals as they were a threat to the power structure,
thus often these individuals were sent to concentration camps for no criminal reason.

, the result of a botched routine surgical procedure.

Add at end:

The R-7 design is still used to this day, 2016, to send satellites into space as well as astronauts.

Nikola Tesla. The civ guide text:

After:
"War of the Currents" to protect his investments in DC electricity production and distribution.

Add a new paragraph:

Tesla can be said to be the pioneer of the information age. He invented the technology in microchips as well as the technology that drives smartphones and the internet.
Some of Tesla's inventions include, the transistor, the radio, radar, the x ray, discovery of earth resonance, artificially producing ball lightning, neon lighting, electric motor and wireless communications.

May be change MONTEZUMA by MOCTEZUMA ?
Well, as far as i'm concerned Montezuma is as correct a spelling as the other. The issue with antique and some foreign (like Asian) names is they don't literally translate into Latin alphabet so the best we have are multiple approximations.
Wikipedia said:
Montezuma, Moctezuma, Moteczoma, Motecuhzoma, Moteuczomah, and Mwatazuma are variant spellings of the same word ...

Seconding the change of "Montezuma" to "Moctezuma", but I would appreciate it more if it was changed to "Moctezuma I" as I imagine with multiple leaders being a thing that we will eventually get mods to add Moctezuma II.

Changelog.
  • Montezuma renamed Moctezuma I
If you really want to go this way, i suggest you at least rename Peter to Pyotr because unlike Montezuma this is the only official romanization of his name and it would be more consistent with Pedro (another Peter)

@sukritact Should the Civlopedia entry for "Social Media" be modified?

I find it interesting that USENET is not mentioned directly in the entry, given that USENET is the direct predecessor of social media as we know it (and is in fact the earliest form of social media).

The Chinese capital should be Xianyang, which was the capital of Qin dynasty. Although both Xianyang and Xi'an were located at same location (25km in distance), later one was the capital of Han danysty, also it was called Chang'an throughout the entire Chinese ancient history, and only changed to Xi'an after 17th centry.

sukritact updated Historicity++ with a new update entry:

Districts Descriptions are useful now!

Historicity++ Updated:

Changelog.
  • Districts descriptions are actually useful now: see the screenshot for an example (please ignore UI changes)
  • Removed typo fixes, since they've been fixed in the Fall Patch (now can you fix the historical errors, at least the one on the Wat? As a native of the region that's definitively wrong.
  • Renamed the Chinese capital to Chang'an

Could you add some acknowledgements for the Soviets concerning their contribution to space travel and huge role during the cold war? Churchill has way to many quotes if you ask me, Soviets have none.

Is this mod purely a change to the Civlopedia?
Thanks.

It makes changes to various bits of text, including unit names, leader names, and yes pedia texts; no actual gameplay changes.
