History question - has there ever been a revolt for the wrong reason?

It wasn't the taxes per se, it was the American Colonies were taxed without having representation in Parliament.

That was just a slogan to incite the public. The last thing the founding father wanted was representation in parliament because they would just be outvoted on things.

Look at Charles Parnell and how he worked Parliamentary politics with a small voting block. So long as they hypothetical MPs stick together, they can force concessions in exchange for their support in elections.

In any case, the King wasn't about to add seats to either the House of Lords or Commons for America. So the point is moot.
