HNDY06 AWD Pangaea Zulu Pillage-O-Rama

Wait a second...what's going on here? I played and posted my turns Sunday...why didn't they show up?

Sorry Handy, didn't even see your note. For once, I wasn't planted in front on my comp ;)

I saw that you posted your turns in the Iroquois game, do you want me to grab this tomorrow, or will you be able to?

I'll play it tonight. I see above Yom tried to post but it didn't take.

I got a leader, and I'm not afraid to use it.

Well, for the record, I don’t like cities more than 2 tiles apart in this game. We’ll need a decent city count for the unit support it provides. Let’s consider the typical CxxCxxC spacing behind the choke.

Choke behind river is the only thing that gives us a shot.
We must build the GL, and we need to begin a Prebuild PDQ.
Only 1 worker. Must build some more of those.

Here is an overview:
2 Elites and an archer at the choke point
At war with everyone.
Maya – 5 cities, Wheel, IW, Mysticism. 21 gold. Silks.
Russia – 7 cities. Wheel, IW, Mysticism. Zero gold. Spices.
China – 9 cities. Wheel, IW, Mysticism, Math. 10 gold. Furs.
Us – 3 cities. 7 gold. No luxuries. 7 gold.

Pre Turn 1750bc
MM Zimbabwe to get some more food. The Granary still completes in 1 turn.
Bump slider to get math in 7, not 8.

IBT
Zimbabwe – granary – settler [we grow to size 7 in 6 and it completes in 6]

Turn 1 1725
Granary build costs us 1 gpt, but someone else learned math since we not get it in 4 even after we turn down the slider. Somebody will start the SoZ soon. :(
Scout in China is drawing a lot of attention.
MM to get worker next turn from Ulundi.

IBT
China scout bites it.
Ulundi – worker – impi

Turn 2 1700
Uh-oh, Mayan scout is going to get offed in the jungle.

IBT
Our Mayan scout assumes room temperature.

Turn 3 1675
Start a mine
Archer arrives at choke.

Turn 4 1650

IBT
Math – wheel (6)

Turn 5 1625

Turn 6 1600
Mine done. Start road.

Zimbabwe – settler settler

Turn 7 1575
Settler moves S
China is sending Swords toward the choke.

Turn 8 1550
Next settler needs t get to the choke & build walls.

Turn 9 1525
China’s regular swords are a 328% underdog to our veteran Impis fortified on forest.
If the archers bombard gets us a point we are 85% favorites.
Our archers are a 50/50 coin flip.
Let’s play defense.
Found Hlobane – cat

IBT
Hot Damn we got us an army! I hope we survive long enough to use it.
HNDY06_leader_1525bc.JPG

Both of China’s swords bite the dust.

Turn 10 1500

Notes:
I MM’d Bapedi for 1 turn to get 2 spt to finish the barracks. Put it back on food next turn.
Hlobane is now named No Barracks so we don’t accidentally build a regular unit here. Use it for cats. If you build a barracks, change the name.
The mine in Zimbabwe will now finish the settler in 2 and we grow in 3.
Leader is 2 tiles S of the choke.

I think we'll need a city at the choke pretty soon, some day we may get construction and be able to build a wall there too.

I'm beginning to think you're doing the 'Sens" thing intentionally ... :p

An army is good. :) I got it, and should be able to play tomorrow.

Well, I think an Impi Army at the choke will be pretty safe. :)

Having said that, I'm pretty sure we need to push the army out to pillage.

Yes. Next settler should build a walled city at the choke so the army can free up to pillage. Impis and cats can hold the choke for a while. We already have masonry so we can build walls.

What we don't have is IW, although our odds for iron are pretty low based on the looks of our land and the "game crack" info.

We need to dicsuss beginning a Glib prebuild. With no iron, it will be hard to take it away from anyone.

Actually, that's how I pronounce it in my head when I'm reading. The revelation about "Season" is too new to break through my crotchty head.

Unfortunately, the 'sn' is not a combination that comes up in regular English at the end of words very much. Which is why I don't really mind the sens thing. Heck, it even feels unnatural for me to type it sometimes.

I just figured that Handy would have gotten it right at least once along the line. Course, the whole copy and paste puts everything in a different light. :)

:goodjob: Nice turns, Handy! That was some awesome leader luck, now let's use it to make a 3-unit Impi army and pillage the hell out of them ;). I would only keep our army at the choke until we are able to get 2 or 3 impi's (Behind walls) there. An army should really be used for pillaging at this stage of the game, not defending.

lurker's comment: Sorry, but I couldn't help mentioning that "SesnOf" can also be "Sesnof", pronounced like "Sesnov", "Zesnov" or "Sesnoff". :D

Sn isn't all that uncommon. (Not only in the beginning of words, but also in "isn't")

IHT – With only four cities, tough to have much to adjust. I could get settler and growth both in 3 in Zimbabwe, but the loss of a gpt doesn’t seem worth it. Looks like the army and the next impi will both arrive on the same turn.

IT – Maya want alphabet for peace. And what if we don’t want peace?

1475 bc (1) – Wheel comes in, start IW. Bapedi rax –> impi. As promised, there are no horses on our ‘island’, but there are some just past the choke, in what will be the second ring of the choke city. Unfortunately, that makes it the first ring of Tsingtao.

1450 bc (2) – Zimbabwe settler -> settler. Ulundi impi -> impi. Leader builds an army and steals two vet impi from Ulundi for it.

1425 bc (3) – A reg sword approaches our choke. I move Pillage-O-Rama out to meet the army, also so the other elite will defend.

IT – archer misses on free shot, impi defends flawlessly anyhow.

1400 bc (4) – MM Zimbabwe to get settler/growth in 2. Add P-O-R to army, making a full complement.

IT – reg sword and two Mayan JT’s approach choke.

1375 bc (5) – Send worker to start roading to chokepoint.

1350 bc (6) – Zimbabwe settler -> cat. I stare at the screen for a few minutes, deciding where I want to put the next city. There are a bunch of possibilities, but none that really jump out at me. Finally decide to send him to bridge the gap to the choke.

IT – Maya begin the Pyramids.

1325 bc (7) – Not much to do this turn.

1300 bc (8) – Settler arrives at the choke.

1275 bc (9) – Zimbabwe cat -> settler. Ulundi impi -> impi. Chokehold founded at…..the choke. :crazyeye: Have to hire a couple taxmen, since the cities are not making enough gold to make bumping the lux rate worthwhile.

1250 bc (10) – IW comes in, I start Writing since I’m not sure what the best tech for us is. Change the taxmen to scientists to get it in almost half the time. Build Intombe, closing the borders with Chokehold.

Recap: The Chinese iron must be right next to their capitol, since it’s not visible at the moment. There are a couple of swords headed for Chokehold, and they actually are not going to be attacking across the river, not that it will matter with the army there. I would think that one more impi, along with some walls would make the city pretty secure. I’d also suggest that we try to chop a temple in Chokehold, and raze Tsingtao at the first opportunity, so we can grab those horses.

We need some workers to irrigate all those plains.

I'd like to hear from everyone on the Glib. I don't see us taking it with no iron, and without it we'll lose. Better safe than sorry to start the prebuild like right now. My $.02.

I have it. Pillaging 'r' us. One pre-build starting now.
