HNDY08 - AWDG Babylon - Small Pangaea

Handy, I think it would be fun to try this variant (limit on pillaging) on a standard map - perhaps continents though and with a decent civ (Ottomans?)

Do you feel up for such a game as the next one?

I'm up, but...

Do you prefer
1. OTTO AWDG standard Pangaea no pillage;
2. OTTO AWDG standard continents no pillage;
3. OTTO AWE large Pangaea with no restrictions.

Each sounds appealing, but I don't want to bite off more than I can easily chew. Handywife & I cut a deal limiting me to 2 SG's at a time. :lol:

I think no pillage continent could be harder than since it is sometimes difficult to get armies across the sea. And usually the other continent is more advanced. We may have a sword army versus pikes, or MI versus muskets. If we try that we may want to go for the minimum amount of water in hope we find a crossing we can use before astronomy. And perhaps a seafaring civ like the Vikings. Beserk Armies are sweet. Of course, minimal water means the AI across the pond can find us faster.

Greebley, Northern Pike, grs, Yom, Sir Bugsy, lurkers Pipe up if you want me to save you a spot.

I can start this tomorrow, but I'll be gone most of next week so Greebley can keep things moving while I am gone.

Save me a spot, please. I don't much want to play option 3, due to the laborious endgame on a large map. I'll be happy with whichever choice those of you more familiar with the fine points of AW make between 1 and 2.

Handy, you're right about the difficulty of getting an army safely landed on another continent before Astronomy, which is a particular issue at Sid. The Vikings solve this problem neatly, since they can take a city by amphibious assault with Berserks, move empty army in on a galley, and load it up with units before the enemy can counterattack.

I favour the quickest possible win too.
Is 400AD quick enough :)

Yes, I would like to play that game too!

Edit: I would prefer option #2, but one is ok too. Save me a spot please.

PreTurn: Reread the house-rules. There is nothing bad about disbanding all your units in an AW game if you think temples are better than military I guess ;)

Set all border cities to temples if they do not have one. Switch some cities to settlers. Disband about 20 units and move even more to cities to disband them on the next turn. Whip 2 temples.

360AD: Disband more units. Kill a Sumerian longbow in the fields and a musket in Kish. Remove a barb camp. 56 tiles to go.

370AD: Kill a barb, a Hittites spear and 2 Sumerian muskets. Kish taken and kept.

380AD: Kill a Hittites settler/3MC pair, a barb. 2 chariots and 1 longbow impale on the IBT. We learn chivalry - research off - though cash has no use. 46 tiles to go.

390AD: Disperse another barb. 3 cities founded. We have found UR and could attack next turn but...

... swords to temples effects come in ...

... and ...

Good thing we didn't go for conquest.

Stylish finish, Grs. :goodjob:

Great game, gentlemen. :thumbsup: Particular thanks to Handy for running it. :king: It's remarkable that the Bowman rush was so effective at this difficulty level.

Nice fast finish Grs :D

Ya, the bowman rush was effective. I think that the early AI wars played a big role in our early win though. I mean we didn't even fight the Hittites and they were nearly gone.

Not to lessen our win or anything, we took advantage of what we were given and played well too, IMO.

This really surprised me too.

HNDY10 starts tonight. :)
Option #1 as OTTO, with Vikings in #2 in a future game.

I have Greebley, grs, Northern Pike, and Sir Bugsy down. Maybe take 1 more player.

IF T_McC or Slinger are lurking they are welcome also in this or any of my future games.

:eek: Wow! done that quick! Well done gr!

Thanks for a fun game gents. Now we're on to harder stuff.
