a galley suddenly shows up from the other side and it drops a horse
MM is due next turn, we should build a rax to build vet units. think we should go for archers or horses to fend off the attacks

No progress yet, my goal is to play some tonight & finish it tomorrow night. Let me know if that is a problem, otherwise I'll proceed when I get home from work.
 
Sorry for the slow down, I got 4 turns completed and should be able to finish up tonight. I'll post what I have Saturday morning before going out of town, so someone else can play over the weekend.
 
Summary: Things turn slightly bad during my set. A Russian spear pair has been relentlessly pillaging our homeland, but with only a warrior to attack I did not and now a pair of AZT galleys is headed our way.

preturn 1250BC
RUS owns the Lighthouse which is why they are sailing the seas. They are also up 7 techs, while the others are up 4 techs.

IBT - RUS horse attacks Const. and kills a spear, but is redlined - then the galley sinks a Handy (I quickly rename the other curragh to Handy and hope that no one notices)
we learn MapM set to WC at 50% in 7 turns

Turn 1 - 1225BC
I kill the offending horsey
have to bump lux to 30% since the warrior is out of the city

there is another RUS galley near our shore

IBT - RUS galley does not drop off any troops / RUS complete MOM

Turn 2 - 1200 BC
lux back to 20%

IBT - RUS galley comes back east
CONST spear => barracks

Turn 3 - 1175BC
Handy hides in Const

IBT - RUS uloads 2 spear and archer next to our capital

Turn 4 - 1150BC
run the spear from Adrian up to Const to give us 3 units there

IBT - RUS offers peace for 32gold & 3gpt - not in an AW game / Handy defends against a RUS galley, then another galley unloads another spear and warrior then attacks & sinks Handy / Rus spear pillages the ivory

run a spear from Const up to Caesarea
2 northern workers join our souther workers

IBT - 2 AZT galleys moving north by RUS / RUS spear pillages our 2nd ivory / RUS is building TOA

Turn 7 - 1075BC
we'll have WC next turn, was able to leave lux at 20 even with the loss of our ivory
move a spear to protect our horses

IBT - the 2 AZT galleys cross, they are headed to us also / RUS spear pillages / ARB is building TOA
we learn WC set to HBR @70% in 12 turns

Turn 8 - 1050BC
wake Bugs to run interference with the AZT galleys

IBT - RUS spear move to a new tile

Turn 9 - 1025BC
move Bugs to force the AZT around the long way

IBT - the RUS pillaging continues / ARB completes Great Wall

Turn 10 - 1000BC
move Bugs around the south side of island, the 2 AZT galleys were forced to go around the north side
due to the pillaging I had to drop sci to 60%

Notes to next player
1) Kill those RUS spear and watch out for the 2 AZT galleys by Bugsy
2) I started a Dromon, we need a lot of them

lurker's comment: That's an awful tiny island, how are you gonna pump out enough units to take down an AI? Or support them? Even if an AI has an island the same size, you'll still be meeting stacks of 50-100. You'll need lots of musketmen, amounts that I don't think that island and other islands you colonize could support. You'll probably need at least 3 musket armies, and there's probably not enough space for cities to support them. Well, that's just me. Good Luck! You'll need it.
 
Pre turn
No reason to guard the horses without roads and lacking HBR. I move the spear on the horses to the hill. He still blocks the path to the south and he can jump into the capital if we need help against more Russian troops. They have WC so archer are on the way I’m assuming.
I changed the capital to a harbor so we can upgrade out three dinky boats.

Another spear and Russian archer land. This is bad bad bad. :cry: There are now three spears and an archer in our lands. We may have to flush all those Glib Prebuild shields just to survive. I’ll try not to though.

Spear I move from the horses jumps into the capital.

Turn 2 950
I was hoping the archer would lose so I could place the regular spear back on the hill to block the path to the south. The Russian spears spot the path to the south and are going that way. The capital harbor must be switched back to a spear to block the southern passage around the capital.
Adrianople gets switched to a harbor so we can upgrade Dromons. Two Currahs are relatively close to reaching port for upgrade. I will have to turn down science for 2 turns to gain cash to upgrade them

Our harbor is done and ready to refit the currahs.

Move reg. spear onto the hill next to the capital.
Workers begin a furious irrigation project to save the capital from starvation.

We should have researched Math. If so we could switch to SoZ after we reestablish roads. Oh well, hindsight 20/20.

I empty all units from the capital to try and bait the AI way from Adrianople.

If we try this again we should consider skipping the Glib and going for MM and a slew of dromons.

Oops.. I actually started playing on this.. but forgot to post got it.. in my game things happened quite differently thou.. and I beat back all the aztec and russian troops..

Let's play this out as an "open" SG since Gyathaar brought it back from the dead :thumbsup: and then we can start another tiny AWS.

EDIT: We could try a bigger map if you all care to, but I have to warn you the turns can get long and tedious when you have lots of dromons and artillery to fire each round.
 
I thought this one was already over :)

Anyway the situation is not so good since we only have space for 3 good towns, most of our island is covered with jungle, that'll take too long to clear. I think that we should build the SoZ ASAP, but we can't dedicate another town to building wonders since we need more dromons. Maybe we should start it after the GL.

In my recent sid game i noticed a very strange thing: none of the AI's researched Literature at all, they made it to the IA without building any libraries and universities. In some other games most AIs didn't go for Literature for a long time after it was researched by more backward AIs and then traded around. Propably that's because tech priority for the AI depends on number of turns needed, and on sid only weaker AIs research MA techs slow enough. This propably means that we still have some time before they discover Literature :)
