Not sure how much the rest of you Civ 5 HoF stalwarts are playing during the HoF hiatus, but Civ 7 seems to be a step backwards over 6 (which I didn't really like) and 5 and 4...
so I am still getting in some Civ 5 play on occasion.

I have been focusing on time victories. With no time pressures to complete gauntlet games, Time victories let one breathe in the Civ 5 experience slowly, haha.

What's your take on "slow and steady" vs "tall first, rapid expansion later" approaches for Time VC?

I have been playing slightly higher difficulties most recently where tall first and rapid expansion later seems pretty much hands down better.

And to be honest, I have been playing them all so far on Lakes maps to not deal with the massive map sprawl and game slowdown haha.

Even with a Lakes map, I had to switch to the very simple view mode or else I would crash multiple times a turn.
It was the only way I could finish the game, even with a modern laptop. I fear a larger map may be beyond my laptop. May try a bigger map on PC soon.

I want to run some lower difficulty slow and steady tries and maybe work my way up and compare.

Aztecs, India, or other civs?

Don't think I've ever played an Immortal+ Time VC. I'd imagine stroing AIs create more problems than opportunities overall? Although Venice and Austria opponents would be interesting to raze a few CSs. Pachacuti and William would actually construct some Terrace Farms and Polders, on low difficulties they take too long to get those online.

Steady and Delayed approaches I think lead to pretty much the same result if the game lasts 500 turns. Steady might be a bit stronger if you want to benefit from two religions (e.g. get Pagodas and Mosques from an AI in every city). Sometimes I wish there had been more gauntlets or GOTMs with a limit of 250-350 turns - choosing the right strategy would've been more consequential in such games.
