HOF Questions & Answers

I have three suggestions that I would like to float and see what happens:

1) If the HOF staff is not already overworked, I would love to see a Weekly Duel.

2) Periodically, and I do mean periodically, I think it would by interesting to have a G-Minor where the Policy Saving option is required to be checked.

3) Periodically, it would be nice to have a Gauntlet game where the players are required to download a master Turn-0 savegame. This would put every player in the exact same position, and would be a true test of relative skill.

1) A weekly duel is interesting but for me it is already hard to complete a game in half a month :)

3) We have that already "Game of the month" check that out. It is interesting though the competition there hasn't started yet. If ever :p

I saw that GOTM, but it is WAY out of my league!

I also noticed this:"Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory!", which is going to cause problems due to the policy saving option being enabled. Of course, if they can get a rules exemption for their GOTM, it would certainly be a nice precedent for my policy-saving-enabled G-Minor quest.

It will be months before I take the Diety plunge. If they can work the bugs out of their system, link up/coordinate with the HOF, and use difficulty settings that I can handle, it would be just the sort of thing that I had in mind. I guess I'll wait and see how things develop.

They do two each month and the difficulty changes each time. They do lower levels too :)

policy saving contradicts the current hof rule set. it significantly changes the game and the hof strives for comparability, so i doubt that'll be changed.

Why is it excluded in the first place? It seems that it would add another strategic dimension to the game. Do you take the risk of saving them up, or go for the immediate benefits of using them as soon as they are available? I think there is a huge risk-reward aspect there.

As far as comparability goes, I would wager that the last couple of patches buggered that up already. I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand the logic behind this particular rule.

Yes, there is some calculating to do... once.

After the optimal formula has been cracked, every game will use it every time. There is no strategy left.

It looks like these have been answered. :goodjob: But I will give an official reponse.

Weekly is a bit quick as someone mentioned. We want to provide enough time to allow the most people to participate. Level playing field for those with and without a lot of spare time.

Sorry, the Gauntlets have to follow the same rules as the HOF as we don't have a special submission process for guantlets. We only have to check one set of rules that way. The games then show up on the gauntlet as well if the meet the gauntlet requirements.

3) Periodically, it would be nice to have a Gauntlet game where the players are required to download a master Turn-0 savegame. This would put every player in the exact same position, and would be a true test of relative skill.
Yeah, GOTM, as noted. ;) I don't think they would like us poaching their territory. :mischief:

How about adding a timer to the Gauntlet page, how much time is left for the particular Gauntlet?
I am afraid we can't be any more specific than the dates shown. The date/time the game is accepted is what we use for the gauntlet filter. The gauntlets always end when we do an update. Our procedure is to clear all the game in the queue first. We set the end time on the gauntlets finishing that update after that, to make sure all submissions are included. The update proceeds from there.

When we do the update is subject to real world variabilities. It is best to not wait until the last minute to submit. ;)

I got the CiV GOTY edition for my birthday. I would like to participate in the HOF with my new toy, but I am a bit unclear about one of the rules.

Downloadable Content (DLC):

DLC Civilizations cannot be played or used as opponents unless noted here.

Allowed: Monogolia DLC

I have not purchased any DLC. I realize that it is easier to show what is allowed rather than what isn't (since it is currently Vanila +Mongolia), but to avoid confusion to the GOTY owners, could you please make a list of outlawed civs/leaders?

Thanks

With the GOTY edition I think you have several not allowed DLC's.

Good point. Will get the website to list the non-allowed civs as it won't be clear to GOTY owners.

I'm not sure but it might be possible that they can do the same thing as us. Remove the DLC maps.

I figured it out by looking at the tables on the HOF website (a few minutes after posting). I am a seasoned HOF veteran though, and new GOTY owners may need the list all the same.

Can I play in offline mode for HOF submission, or am I required to have an active Internet connection connected to Steam while I play? It would be nice to play CiV when I travel and submit games for HOF when I return home.

Nope, you don't have to be connected.
