GPS to Minor Axis
British Turn Summary
August 1942 marks the demise of the Axis naval assets. USN and RN ships rule the waves.
North Africa Front
- with the help of Lancaster bombers, the remnants of the Minor Axis fleet stood little chance against the wrath of the Royal Navy. All Axis ships were redlined and sunk with a combination of RN battleships (3), torpedo and dive bombers. No less than 7 destroyers and 3 heavy cruisers were sunk. RN reports no loss.
- more bombers were available to help out the siege of Asyut. Both French foreign legions were redlined and killed by 2 CW inf divisions respectively.
- bombers attack Palermo, sunk 1 destroyer transport in port. City units injured.
- RN marines captured Sardinia airfield. Killed 1 militia.
Western Europe Front
- the RAF is furious at the audacity of the Luftwaffe in the bombing of the home islands. Kiel was saturated with bombs. When the smoke clears, 3 Me109 and 3 Ju88 were destroyed on the ground. Civil defense destroyed along with 3 population.
- RN Battleships manage to sink 1 transport in Brest with bombardment. Coastal fortress destroyed.
South Pacific Front
- Australian RN naval assets discover Kido Butai N of Noumea. Analysts speculate that the IJN were expecting a submarine threat but not air and surface attacks. Breaching a hole in the IJN fleet picket with the sinking of 1 CA and 1 I-boat with CAs and planes, the IJN carriers were exposed. CV Akagi, Kaga, Zuikaku, and Shokaku were sunk with a combination of CA, DD and air attacks. No RN losses.
