Germany,

By the way, I spotted a construction crew in the Middle East in one of your stacks. Obviously, the German cultural boundaries do not extend deep into the Middle East desert. I hope you don't use it to build roads to assault my position.

Hey Everyone..Just checking in. Power restored late this afternoon after Abilene got hit very hard by severe storms and tornados yesterday aft, evening, and early morning. Had to gather up our backyard chairs! 2 went over our 9 foot fence! Luckily for us we escaped ok...but several towns just to our NE did not fare well. Google Breckenridge, tx to see the damage. This is Spring in West Texas. Anyhow..just an update. Have the save and will play it tomorrow.

Ok..Looks like we're back up and running finally. Service restored. Had to replaced shingles, a screen door, and clean up debris! Not complaining...it could have been worst to be sure. So now I'll get to the real important stuff...snatching victory from the Allies!!

Well Explanation necessary for the delay. Following the storms that hit Abilene on Thursday through Friday morning. Power outages were present Friday. Then there was the loss of internet access during the weekend. Apparently the storms and tornados destroyed some infrastructure. Access was intermittent. Then my Yahoo Mail service provided by the ISP went down until today. I hope this is the end of it. Anyhow finally got the Save moved along. I appreciate your patience and especially that of my fellow Allies. Just a side note..I was a little more Anxious because though I had finished my taxes a few days ago...It wasn't until this am that I got them sent out! US TAX Day Tomorrow! So overall..things got done. I'm still working through over 300 emails!!! Solution.....Select All...DELETE!! Again..thanks for your patience!

BURMA
-CW Tank Corps 3 Tiles W of Mandalay Bombed by Betty Bombers to 2/8
-CW Tank Army Bombarded reduced by 2 HPs by IJN DDs

NOTE: For the Record...an Amphib Landing in Burma was impossible in WWII. The only Line of Communication from India to Burma was the Burma Road or Crossing the HUMP by Aircraft. The only other attack point was at Rangoon. THe reason for this was the immense jungle and numerous Rivers that shielded interior Burma from the coast. This is a MAP issue that should be addressed in the next revision. No doubt that TG will Capture Mandalay and roll south towards Rangoon. Nice Tactic and strategy! Just not plausible in WWII.

AUSTRALIA
- IJN Marine Div destroys Road 3 Tiles SW of Darwin

Now I was looking through the Civilopedia which I should have done more in the beginning. When I look under the Terrain section and check Rivers. It says there is 0 MPs. Do I understand this to mean that there is no additional movement cost to cross a River??? It should cost a unit its entire movement points to cross. Which means a unit must have its entire Movement Points available to cross a River and then end its movement in the tile it moved to. NO Matter whether it is a Reg, Div, Corps, or Army. Just asking for clarification.

Sully:
As I recall from reading Churchill's memoirs, Mountbatten's staff
planned several amphibious assaults on Burma but they were always
thwarted by lack of assault shipping and landing craft and American
refusal to co-operate.

I don't think it is possible to increase the river crossing cost in Civ 3, I
can't find anything to do that in the editor. If someone knows more about
how to do this please inform me.

Eric, You may be right. I have a pretty good book on the Burma Campaign..I'll get into it more and see. Its funny about the River thing. I always assumed that there was at least a +1 cost. But you are right. It does not say there is any extra movement cost. Which is really amazing considering how hard it was to cross a river in strength. Every military PC or Board game I have ever played assessed an extra movement cost to cross a river. I guess that my previous biases has been my biggest bonehead moves.

Remember the time scale in the epic civ game is in the order of years,
at least ther is a defensive bonus for defending behind a river.

Did a little more research into this...the Arakan Mountain Range provided a natural barrier which the HOF map doesn't reflect. Now from what I can tell from reading accounts...it was possible to make amphibious landings along the Burmese west coast. But there was no where to go N or S for armor. THere weren't any roads! Now Infantry could move eastward across the range. But armor couldn't. That was why there was such effort put into the Ledo Road in the northern parts of Burma.

Now that shouldn't affect our game. TG made a good move where the map allowed him to. My problem was that for most of the war in that region..I've been using the zoomed out map. By doing so...the city box of Mandalay covers the hill tile that is one tile east of where TG landed his armor. Having not zoomed into that area..I thought it was jungle not a hill tile. Again a mistake on my part. Kudos to TG for exploiting the terrain which he is known for!

So Eric..I would suggest the map needs a little makeover. I'm still making observations on the map for you too. I've noticed particularly in straights that based on the shorelines there should only be on tile that ships can pass through. But on the current map..ships actually can pass from one tile to another across a land feature. I''l continue to not the spots and send to you within the week.

Meanwhile...that British armor army is going to do some serious damage!!!
