Ok, so I've founded both Christianity and Islam with my state religion being Christianity. Anyone have any idea when you get a Holy City? I have maybe 2 cities that I need to spread Christianity too, not sure if it's a requirement to have all cities be your state religion.

Anybody ever get a Holy city? If so, how'd you do it?
Thanx!

You get a Holy City automatically when you found a religion. One of your cities is chosen (I think your capital first, then randomly). Check with your religion advisor to find out which cities they are. It has nothing to do with which is your state religion.

If you mean a Holy Shrine, you need to get a Great Prophet, then move him to a Holy City, then you can make it.

That's just it, I can't make a Holy Shrine. I suppose one of my other cities might have received the Holy City status, but I don't think so. I'll have to check when I get home from work.

press F7 and look for the faith icons with a star next to the icon [see the tech chart in your box - it has other helpful stuff too].
you can have only the one city if you want. it you stumble on philosophy first and already have judaism. but you can use missionaries to spread all faiths even in your empire. cities can be multifaith. so you can make that city by your hindu neighbor that went hindu to christian also. and if you get taoism by mistake, just add it to the mix and spread all faiths you found.

You have to wait for the Great Prophet to come along before you can build a Shrine. In the lower righthand corner of the city screen, there's a bar that shows how many GPPs (Great Person Points) the city is generating per turn and if you mouse over it, you'll see how many there are to go before you get the Great Person. When he comes along, take him to the Holy City and buld the Shrine.

Certain wonders make it more likely to get a prophet instead of other leaders, and adding priest specialists to the city increases the Great People Points and percentage chance of that person being a Great Prophet even further. :)
