Holy Strategy Question

I had an idea for a strategy that doesn’t seem to work so well. (King Difficulty) Trying to figure if I should scrap it or if it can be refined.

I thought I could go for a quick religion an Go with the two food options (shrines/temples produce food too and the building that provides two food). My thinking was I could get more cities to a higher pop for more districts and be able to use all that religion to cherry pick great people.

In practice it just seems to lag early with moving along both the science and culture trees and expansion is slow as well, which puts me in a mid game hole.

Thoughts?

It is good to try new options and it can be odd how sometimes they work really well so full marks for trying.
Harvest and earth goddesses give huge amounts of faith so are by far the best if you can get them. Other faith generating ones are also great.
I personally take Holy Order when I can because it means more religious units.
The only thing science or culture wise you really need is to get to temples fast. So some people like Choral music for this, I would typically take that when not going for a religion.

Religion should be a very fast game, a golden classic evangelist age really pumps your religion out fast when combined with Holy order and speed is very important.

Choral is great for VCs other than religion or CV. Gives you the ability to skip theater districts while spamming holy sites instead. Generates culture to get you through the civics and loads of faith to spend on a variety of things.

My default for RV is divine spark, then scripture. I’ll usually do tithe and mosques as well.

I find divine spark useful on immortal and deity in getting a religion. And scripture makes it easier to spread and hold converted cities.

I’ve gone gurdwara before if I was in an area without a good good supply (desert or tundra). But I haven’t done feed the world in a very long time. May have to try that again.

And yes, choral is good especially in victory types where you don’t need to maximize culture.
