Hoover Dam builds a hydro plant in every city on the continent. But hydro plant can only be built in cities that have rivers in the city squares. However, after I build my Hoover Dam, I've found out that EVERY city in the continent now has a hydro plant, even those without a river! Do those hydro plant work at all? or are they just there and contribute no extra shield?

You don't pay for it in maintenance, but you cant sell it either. I was wondering that too.

The Hoover Dam build hydro plants in all cities with a river or the cities have '' water into is radius '' (1) (that mean rivers, lacs and ocean).

(1)=Civilopedia;)

Traquenard-fx: No that's not right. If you read it in the civilopedia then it's wrong in the civilopedia.
I've done a simple test:
City without any water inside it's radius vs. City with Hoover Dam. Both has almost equal shield production (Both mine almost equal quantity and both take the same bonus from Hydro Plant).
Result: All cities in the continent have the shield bonus of a Hydro Plant.

Really!!!!
But can you explain me why for exemple I build a coal plant and later I build a solar plant(or hydro plant(with or not the Hoover Dam or what you like:crazyeyes )) and after that I have in the city view differents types of power plants!
Do you understand what I said?:D

Look, I didn't mentioned any Coal/Solar plant, OK ? I don't know how these work, I just build the freaking Hoover Dam and ALL (not only those with water in the radius) cities in the continent get the bonus. Is it so difficult to understand me ?
Ps. If you build coal plants, then you should review your pollution control policy.

You can only have one functional power plant at the time (the last one you built). So when you get a new one, like the hoover dam, you should always sell the old ones.

The hoover dam wonder is extremely good, because it gives you a hydro plant (the first non-polluting power plant) in ALL the cities on the continent. The only power plant that is better is the nuclear plant. It's equal to a solar station. So I often skip coal plants altogether to get the hoover dam as soon as possible.

Don't think of it as a hydro plant in every city (which would require them to have water). Think of it as them all having power lines leading back to the Hoover Dam.

Hoover Dam = Best Wonder

Hands Down:goodjob:

Yeti is right. In real life, the Hoover dam is so great because of the amount of power it supplies to the whole American power grid.... Not just the small area surrounding it.
