Who uses hotmail?

All you get is spam and porn-spam. About ten people I know have abandoned it. I have several accounts, but there is no way that I'd use them. Only someone slightly naive about the internet would actually open an account there for a personal/ permanent/ main address. All the good names are gone (including this username), so, unless you got there early, you're unlikely to get a decent one. I suppose though, you might consider it if you were interested in aquiring second-rate porn links :p

So who uses it. Is hotmail the worst web-mail host out there?

What about AOL? My e-mail is literally 99% spam.

ummmmh.......no, i use it, ever heard of setting your filter on?
ofcourse i have free msn messenger that makes it easier, but still every day i look at my blocked folder and i see like 150 e-mails blocked, i only get like 2 or 3 spams a day, they have started a serious anti-spam compaing i love hotmail! no yahoo for me

Calgacus, Stalin is right in that Hotmail has begun an aggresive campaign against spam, and using its filter can work wonders. However, I would still recommend Yahoo mail, because it also has aggresive filtering, and its mailbox capacity is three times greater than that of Hotmail: 6MB to 2MB.

Not really. The email account in which I used to register my CFC account is actually from hotmail. If you made sure that you do not sign up for ANY of their "special offers" and made sure that every little option for you to be on some member list is turned off, you won't get too much spam. Turn on your spam filter, and if anything get through that, block the domain that it came from. But you are partially right, my hotmail account does get more spam than my yahoo account.

I have Hotmail, and I get zero spam. :goodjob:

I put the filter on to as high as i can get it but still my Hotmail account is always full of spam. I get over it though.

My Yahoo account never has spam in it, and has a larger storage space.

We are still talking about Microsoft aren't we... i bet their 'campaign' is only against those spammers who haven't paid for the privalige...

I have two Hotmail accounts. One is a SPAM mail account for registering on websites and whatnot. Anytime I register a product, username, etc. - I (almost always) use that account. The reason for this is because you never know what the websites will do with your email address. Although they may claim they wont reveal your email to anyone, if they happen to go out of business, there's nothing stopping them from selling the entire email database to a marketing firm.

My other Hotmail account was setup for similar purposes and I rarely use it. I also have an MSN account which works as my .NET and side-email account. I also a main email account which I use for businesses, employers, friends (close ones), family, etc. And I have a spare main one and I can set up 6 more if I need, but I've found no use for anymore thus far. All my accounts are relatively SPAM-free with the exception of my SPAM Hotmail account.

I used to have the problem, but I then changed to another hotmail account, and chose not to give that address in hyperlinks on the net. This to avoid spiders who search for e-mail hyperlinks. I have not gotten ONE spam since I got my new adress (1 year ago), and I use no filter..

Wrong, it's only two times now. Yahoo changed the frree box allocation to 4MB, as well as put a hell of a lot of other limits. Such as no free email forwarding, max of 15 mail filters, etc.

As for Hotmail, I detest it too. All I get is spam and nothing but that. My mom created an MSN email account, hasn't even touched it, and got 40 pieces of spam in a month. How did they find it?? I'm trying to kill my Hotmail address now - on 8/17/03, it will hopefully be purged.

Another gripe with Hotmail is that they put your account on freeze after 10 days of no activity; lose your contacts. After 30 days they will bounce back all mail. Yahoo is a lot longer than that!

I got my hotmail address in 1997, so I managed to get my initials and surname. I get about 3 spam mails a day, maximum, so it's not too bad.

If I were 'joining' the internet now, I wouldn't use hotmail, but it's been my primary address for 6 years, and until I have to pay or the spam gets unmanageable, it'll probably stay that way.

4 hotmail adresses on (aka my username) is flooded with spam 50-60 a day, the other 3 get's no spam at all.
