Exampe:

Three levels!

Abundant

Regular

Small

i.e. Abundant Oil Field, Regular steel...

Something like that.

I like it.

The more abundant a resource is, the less chance of it running out......:goodjob:

Or at least you'll know how many turns you'll have left to use it. (Boy, in my current standard game, there's no oil left! I've been needing to trade an INSANE amount of gold for oil, and BOY am I building tanks and Mechs now!)

It's funny you mention that, because a big reason why I replied to this thread was because in my current game I had both my sole iron and saltpeter resources run out on me within a few turns of connecting them to my trade network. :D

Oh man, that doesn't sound good. Are you confident of the outcome? I'm not that good a player. I'm playing warlord right now, and the only advantage I have right now is my real estate and strategy. I'm definitely going to kick the computer's butt eventually, but it's 1910 and I haven't even taken over my full continent yet, and my army is bigger than everyone else's. I'm thinking what I'll be using is tons of armies (Maybe I'll build about six armies, and a bunch of mech infantry for occupation.) My mode of battle is basically a bunch of pecision bombing, followed by cruise missiles (DOZENS of them!), and tank/army attacks. I occupy the city. If I have enough Cruise missiles, I just take over a big city and force everyone to become entertainers. The resistence ends soon, many of 'em starve to death, but they're in line after the fact. LOL

:p

Hmm its an okay idea...Its useful when your in a difficult game and you want to know when a resource will run out, and you would expect to have an idea of when the resource would run out. Even with oil you can predict about the right about of oil...However the random feature is interesting for trade and wars as you don't know when you are going to run out and makes you have to plan more carefully, or just be lucky.

like i said before good idea but it would let to abuses like asking a ai asking for techs to see the ai seeing that source depleted

Anyone who complains while still playing with the braindead idiotic non-realistic resource values that came with the game deserves what they get,

Edit.

Assuming you're not being ironic, EDIT UP the frequency of strategic resources, esp. coal and iron, and make their disappearance less likely.

Firaxis' values are absurd and unreal. Iron NEVER was that hard to find. I have it at 177, for example.

Tweak and try different values. Resources should be rare but not ridiculously rare. Check with some geography books.

And after you've done that and corrected Firaxis' stupid resource values, you can also Edit up post-gunpowder military units' strengths.

Go see the mod I left on the other forum for examples.

I think its because you can edit the values for each resource in the editer so we could do it ourselves instead of waiting for Firaxis to do it for us.

thanks Zouave i didnt know that, but my point of view is ressource should not disapear at all( its annoying). imagine you found a new full corupted city on a far island, rush built temple and harbor to see you coal disapear within a few turn ( it happen to me). Firaxis decrease artillery accuracy without our advice but they wont do logical improve for ressource disapearance. its much better for them to do change that annoy human player not the one that give you fun to play.

Iron is Civ3 is better thought of as "strategic metal" resource. It has different purposes in different parts of the game. Tin is rare and localized, so bronze weapons require treatment as a strategic resource. At the beginning of the iron age, only special surface deposits were available for use in weapons. Only after this was proven successful did other, harder to mine, ore used. In the age of steel, very large deposits of iron are required and are limited in distribution. Also, rare metals are required for alloys, justifying the limited distribution of the resource.

Finally, it's just a game abstraction, and IMHO, makes the game a lot more fun.

Nah, it's not a problem, actually it adds a new twist to the game when you have curveballs thrown your way.....my home continent is a gem, though. Standard map, lots of grassland, room for 15 cities with no overlap, lots of cattle and wheat, 5 wines and 4 silks........the only setback is it's lack of strategic resources. I have 1 coal, at least.....although I'm a little worried about it running out, for obvious reasons. ;)
