How are stealth bombers suppose to travel between continents?

20 tiles is a huge distance, no need to worry about rebasing :)

Maybe, but on huge maps (120x80 and more) it starts to get annoying. Now that airlift is apparently gone, we could have very little means to interact in a meaningful way with dfar away civs.

I still don't believe reviews/stratguide/the manual much - we'll see!

If it matters any, Stealth Bombers can't land on carriers today and the US Navy canned their own stealth bomber projects a while back.

Then again, WW2 bombers couldn't land on WW2 era carriers either (Doolittle's raid of bombers were just barely able to launch from a carrier, and landed elsewhere).

What, you say the rebasing range is too short??

Is it finally time for Firaxis to add my personal UU???

*looks at signature longingly...*

I much prefered the old system where your new base had to be within ranged of the current base. Flaying halfway around the world in one turn, while it takes 10-15 turns for boats is a bit unrealistic imo. I think that if they double the re-base range, since you don't need fuel for the return trip, this should apply to all planes.

I still don't understand why bombers can be based on carriers...the only instance I know of was the Doolittle Raid which required some serious modifications to the aircraft themselves; not to mention that the bombers we're never intended to land back on the carrier.

Have to throw on my airpower hat here. Depends on what you're talking about. If you mean strategic aircraft (i.e. bombers, fighters, transports) then yes, we can (today) deploy aircraft anywhere in the world in about 24 hours. Trust me on this - used to be part of my job description... :) And, yes, the reason that capability is important is just as you said - it takes ships months to cover the same ground.

The problem, of course, is that not everything is air transportable (heavy armor, for example...) hence the need for prepositioned assets.

But if you're talking rebasing planes to the other side of the wold in one turn - I think they should stick to whatever works best for gameplay and balance, but I'd be hard pressed to call it unrealistic.

Does anyone know if you can you base your aircraft in an allied city? If so that'd make those little city states pretty useful.

I'm glad rebasing takes range into account now. Was pretty silly that you could instantly move a plane to anywhere on the map. I hope they also take this into account for airlift operations (assuming they are in.) Was dumb that you could capture a city and instantly drop a new unit into that city no matter how far away it was.

I'll say though, rebasing should be twice the range that the plane has on operations since operations are round trip and rebasing is not.

again, we can do this now - move a plane to anywhere on the planet in about 24 hours. So, unless turn legnths have shrunk to less than a day, not silly.

I'm not (repeat NOT) saying I think worldwide rebasing should be in the game; I'm a big fan of balance and playability over realism. Just saying that it isn't silly... :D

@SickFak

When I was a kid I went to an activity camp and whilst I was there 2 Unlimited were No.1 in the charts. Halfway through the week someone started a rumor that they had died in a car crash! We were all a bit upset by it. Luckily it wasnb't true.

On topic, wait for the patch.

There were some great stuff in the 90's. :D
