OK, I think I have a problem here. When I click on multiplayer and then internet, I can't seem to find anybody there! I clicked on refresh but the screen remains blank!

What is the cause of this? This has been going on for months! Please help! Thanks!

Well because nobody has the patient to play online and the multiplayer of civ 5 is just terrible

But main reason is most people dont have the patient to play online for long and when they save the game most people dont continue as result you are stuck with a lot of AI players and maybe 1 or 2 players not fun..

Well, what I meant was when I searched for available games over the internet, there was none at all! You mean people don't even bother creating new games from the beginning in MP?

This is very weird!

I thought that too, but if you join either the "civplayers" or "no quitters" group on steam, then there's lots of games going on all the time.

OK, thanks for the kind reply. So basically, when you search for games in the internet section of the multiplayer, you won't be able to find any games? It is becasue this is the easiest method in joining a multiplayer game.

Or if I host a game will other players be able to see my game over the internet section? If that is the case, it seems strange that nobody is acting like a public host. This happens whenever I am online.

By the way, as far as other games are concerned, this is not the case as you can always find games over the internet but for Civ 5, the multiplayer function is a bit weird.

:mischief:

I agree 100%. I thought it was weird that I couldn't find a game easily. But when I did find a game (after waiting for like an hour) people were acting rude, quitting the game 30 turns in, and stuff like that. And I guess that's why most people use those two groups, so there's a better chance of getting a good game going.

Like being said, join groups to ensure good games. Also, if you only want to play a random game(as i can see you live in Singapore) you should change Steam room to New York/Los Angeles in the morning or any good Europe room if you start it in the evening(assuming you always live in Singapore :)).

To change room :

Steam menu--->settings--->Downloads/Clouds

I often see over 20 games up in week-ends for New York room and 5-10 for any other days. Lot more people play mp than many can think.

Singleplayer is fun, but not as much as mp.

I have never played multiplayer on civ. I did play on Call to Power, but the makeup of that game was much more intricate than CiV and was as much fun with multiplayer as it was without. When the AI for CiV gets much better, and things are added to make the game more fun. Then I'll take the chance to play it on multiplayer. That way if there are 1 or 2 human players, the AI will be worthwhile to play against. In the meantime, I do hope Firaxis finally fixes it and makes it better. I have been waiting for this to happen since its release date last year. And it still hasn't.

Like other people said earlier, I just don't have the patient or intention to play multiplayer on civ.

I never play with randoms from the internet. I play against people I know who I can insult and belittle properly if they quit the game.

Few people play CiV multiplayer because many other games are more enjoyable for the time spent...

like, solitaire, minesweep, anything with moving parts, etc.

I checked it out awhile after release and had a few good games of dozens; won some, lost some. I don't miss playing it. The developers failed with the multi-player aspect of this game.

Whenever I've tried playing Civ 5 with my friends over the Internet, at least one person has had insurmountable connection problems.

Works fine over LAN, just don't do a game world above size small or it'll take forever.

A singleplayer game usually takes me a day or two if I'm realy avid about playing Civ 5 every single day. If you want to play it online you'll have to go for a long haul session, effectively occupying you for an entire day. This is why civ 5 fails as a multiplayer game, unless you're playing with a group of people you personally know and have fixed playing times with (so you can start an MP game, play for an hour or two, save, and continue the next day/week).

I would play, but I hate the fact that combat takes place in real time. And even then the one match I have played (2 nice guys and 1 ass) took forever, and only ended when we all quit.

Agree with most of the other comments. I also note that your CFC profile says you're in Singapore. If you change your region, you should be able to find a game of randoms happening somewhere in the world.
