How do I back up my files?

Ok, so with my semester over, I've decided this is the right time to system restore my computer. But I have no idea how to back up anything except for putting all my videos and songs on itunes onto CDs. That's actually about 2/3 of the jobs but I don't know what to do for the rest. I've never even used a memory stick. May I please have some instructions on how to back up documents and ebooks?

If your USB Memory stick is large enough, you can store your documents into it.
